Sierra Tahoe Bigfoot Research

This site is dedicated to the research of bigfoot, and it's habitat, in the Tahoe and outlying Sierra region of Nevada and California. We listen to witnesses who want to talk about their experiences, and keep them confidential unless otherwise requested. Our mission is to learn as much as we can about the possible existence of the sasquatch, in the hope that we can all gather a better knowledge of the species, then ultimately, we as a race understand that it's habitat, and way of life, must be protected.

Sierra Tahoe Bigfoot Research: Update

About to hike into the desert, at the end of my street.
Please send Sierra, Tahoe, Nevada, or any other sighting reports you'd like to share with me at stbigfoot@gmail.com. All commnication will be kept confidential, unless given written consent to post sighting reports here, or on our other blog, NevadaSasquatch.blogspot.com
________________________________________________

I'm sorry to have been absent these past couple of years. My life has taken a few unexpected twists and turns, and needless to say, my squatching has been put on the back-burner for now.

Recently I just haven't had the opportunity to do anything bigfoot related in some time. Mainly, because now I find myself living in Mohave County, AZ. The desert has always been a special place for me, having lived in a few around the world, throughout my half century of life. I'm just a few miles from the Colorado River, and Laughlin, NV. In the photo above, there has been some sighting reports, just over that mountain range you can see in the distance, near Kingman, AZ. I hike quite often, a few miles into the desert, to do a little target shooting and to get some badly needed exercise. There would be so much food here for squatch, and the river is only about 4 miles from here... but the summer heat! Not yet technically summer, and it was still over 100f degrees outside, at 10pm, when I began to write this.

Another setback is that my good squatching buddy, I've mentioned before, "Woodrat," suffered a stroke in the summer of 2015. He lost quite a bit of mobility, though doing much better now. He's relocated out of the country, and now lives in Lima, Peru. He's living the expat life down there, surrounded by his wife's side of the family, and he's doing well. Just no squatching in Lima.

As for myself, I will probably be making my way toward Colorado soon, to be near my kids, who live out there with their mom. Time has passed too quickly. Logistics and new career paths are slowly coming along, and I hope to get out there soon. I know my son would love to get up into the Rockies with me to do some hiking.

The Sierras will always have a hold on me though. Of course, it's been where I'd concentrated my efforts for 6 years, while I was actively seeking the squatch. It's difficult to explain, though it might be easier to understand. I feel I've satisfied my need to constantly seek "the truth."  I feel that I'm in a place, where I "KNOW" the truth about bigfoot. I started this as a journey to satisfy my childhood curiosity. Though I never had the chance to see one, I've experienced enough. I've heard first hand accounts, from incredibly credible people. I've seen enough, heard enough, and felt enough during my trips out into the field. They are real. No one can tell me otherwise. I'm at peace with it, and no longer feel the need to constantly invade their domain, searching for evidence of their existence.

Please don't get me wrong. I will, when given the opportunity, spend more time in the back-country, listening and observing, but it will be while I'm camping, hiking, hunting or fishing, and enjoying their home. It won't be me, going out to search for them. One thing I've taken from all this is that you will see them, when they allow you to. Either by accident, or on purpose. Actually stalking them with human ears, eyes and a camera, are a rather fruitless endeavor. We've had far more experiences in camp, sitting in the dark, no campfires, or by lying in our tents, just listening. Trying to track them down, and to see one.... hopeless. To see one is like hitting Powerball, and getting struck by lightning on the same day. That's my humble opinion.

For now, I will check back once in a while, if I get some news, or an interesting report. I do receive some interesting reports, but it's important for me to get an email confirmation, that it's OK for me to post the sightings here on the blog. Many times, I never hear back from the people who report it. many times, they just want my opinion, to validate what they believe they saw... sometimes, I don't think they write to share the info publicly, and that's totally understandable. This is why I always ask, before I post. I always omit key location info, mainly to keep the "hunters" away. So please keep this all in mind, if you send me anything.

I wrote more than I expected, with more detail than I planned on. I just wanted to make all aware that I'm still here, and that I'll post any pertinent news, when I receive any. Before I left Reno, I did have one last experience, near one of the ski resorts at the North end Tahoe. It was during an investigation with a witness, who had just had a sighting in that area. I captured some great audio, as a squatch was vocally interacting with a pack of coyotes. One of the best experiences I'd had to date. Hopefully I'll get up the motivation to edit the sound clip, and post a report on that exciting evening.

If you plan to venture out, and do some of your own investigating, please stay safe, responsible and respectful. (If you want need some safety tips, please feel free to write me.)

Thank you.

SASQUATCH: Bigfoot Vocalizations - "Bigfoot Screams (Longest Audio In The World)"

(A) Clipper Mills, CA (Click on Photo to Enlarge)

I've been meaning to post this for those who have not heard of it. The event was originally posted to YouTube by the man who recorded it. He's dubbed it, "Bigfoot Screams(Longest Audio In The World)." It very well may be. I'm not familiar with any other "scream" recordings this long. At the beginning of his video, it reads:
On July 8, 2012, our truck broke down while towing our boat to a nearby lake. We were forced to spend the night on the side of the road until the next day when we could deal with our transmission issues. There was no cell phone service. No where to go.

The screams began around 10:00 PM.

Below is an version posted by ParaBreakdown, with enhanced audio and a map illustrating how the events of that night unfolded.

If you'd like to see the original footage and his follow ups on the event, CLICK HERE to visit his YouTube channel.

On a related note, I viewed some footage taken on the Umatilla Reservation in Oregon, where similar screams have been stirring up that community for the past few months. I posted a story about it a few days ago. Read more by CLICKING HERE.

SASQUATCH: Possible Bigfoot Sighting And Photo

I received a report from a woman named Lisa. She was able to get a photo of what she had seen. Though it is not a clear picture of an upright creature, the proportion of the limb that is visible in the photo seems too long to be a bear. The subject's posture, in Lisa's photo, reminds me of that in the Jacob's Creature photos from Pennsylvania. Click here to see those photos.

Here's Lisa's account in her own words and her photo below:

It was November 2009 my daughter and new granddaughter of 8 months where out for a drive and taking photos, my daughter being a new mother exhausted asleep and granddaughter asleep. So I decided South Lake Area would be a nice drive. I had went up to the parking area took a couple of photos and then started back down and saw the pond on the way up so I thought it would be a pretty photo on my way back down. I pulled over thought nice, I looked around for the shot I wanted then I noticed a big black something that was not moving I thought maybe a bear, dead stump or log so I took the photo zoomed in a bit to capture the shot I wanted of the mountain and pond, trees, then I lowered my camera. When I realized it was none of what I thought I wanted to full zoom on it and get a photo. By the time I raised my camera to get a full zoom shot it was gone. This all happened with in seconds.
I know that it was still for a few minutes then I believe it knew I was watching it so it went to hide. A bear would not have been so still for that long. I have seen and been around plenty of bears in my life. I grew up here, I know what I saw and it was not a bear. When I returned home I loaded my photos to my laptop and that's when I saw how it was bent over a large boulder frozen still.
Lisa.

FEELING SQUATCHY?

I just wanted to take the time to thank those who have purchased merchandise from the STBR Shop on CafePress. I haven't check on the shop in quite a while, because honestly, it's averaged about one sale a year. It was just a little project I started and had fun with, thinking up a few designs. I'm no pro. I was just having fun on MS Paint. I actually did the STBR logo on Paint with my finger and the track pad on my laptop. I was just doodling around. It's not great, but it's mine.

Sales numbers aren't going to get a thermal imager anytime soon, but for me, I'm just completely jazzed that there are folks out there sporting Sierra Tahoe Bigfoot Research gear. I think the spike in sales can be attributed to the popularity of Finding Bigfoot on Animal Planet. Since it first aired, 12 shirts and a water bottle have sold. Women's wear is the most popular. Thank you ladies!

I'd love it if any of those who have purchased something would send me a picture of yourself, modeling your FEELING SQUATCHY and I BELIEVE wares.

Thanks again everyone! stbigfoot@gmail.com

SASQUATCH: Research and Shooting.... REALLY???

Autumn Williams, at Oregon Bigfoot, wrote a piece on her blog about what a long term witnesses view is on some techniques being employed by most researchers today. That's not all, but it's the gist of it. If you are a researcher, aspiring to start, or if you're just into everything "bigfoot," I highly recommend that you read it.

Click Here to read Shooting Sasquatch: A long-term witness perspective, on the Oregon Bigfoot Blog.

Autumn has the trust of several long-term witnesses who share their experiences with her, and she wrote about one of those witness experiences in her book, Enoch: A Bigfoot Story (pictured above)In her latest blog article, Autumn and a long-term witness make some great points about mainstream research techniques. In a radio interview, I once referred to Autumn as the "Fairy Godmother to the Sasquatch." I meant that as a compliment. I don't think that there is a bigger advocate for the well being of the bigfoot, than Autumn Williams. I have always admired her for that. When I was just starting out as an armchair bigfoot blogger, her Oregon Bigfoot site, especially her blog, was one of the places that I learned a lot from. The other place I absorbed a lot was on Cliff Barackman's blog.

When I started to go out into the field, I decided to use an approach where that if there were bigfoot in the area, I would try to habituate them to me. If I found evidence of possible bigfoot activity, I would keep returning to that area. I wore the same shirt, pants and cap, every time, to be recognizable. I wanted them to see that I was respectful, and quiet, and show that I was not a threat. Whenever I stopped for a break, I'd eat an energy bar, fruit or whatever, and I'd leave some behind as a gift, as if I was sharing. To me, it's not "baiting" because I'm sharing what I have, and hopefully they watch me eat. I always took these breaks going up the mountain, and on the way back, what I left behind was gone. More than likely, it was taken by birds, woodchuck, squirrel or raccoon, but I always wanted to show that I was sharing. I didn't tree knock or make calls. That was my routine on day trips.

Then I started to overnight, with my buddy Woodrat. We employ much of the same techniques. I wear the same clothes, no deodorant for 3-4 days we're out there. I only change socks. If the sasquatch have an acute sense of smell, I want them to become familiar with my scent. I wear the same clothes as I wore on my one day trips. Woodrat's area was about 20 miles from my research area, with a viable travel corridor of valleys, and a river connecting my area to his. It is a migration path that I believe the same sasquatch family group could use as they move around to forage for food. I wanted to remain familiar if they are.

I digress..... Back to Autumn's blog.

I don't like bashing or talking bad about other researchers. I'll try not to in this case. This article brought out a very disturbing bit of information that I wasn't aware of. The reason she referenced "Shooting" in the title, was that there was an incident where a researcher shot at a bigfoot to "collect a specimen." Are you freakin SERIOUS??? REALLY??? The Texas Bigfoot Research Conservancy.... Yes! "Conservancy!" On their website, they describe the incident, which occurred during their "Operation Endurance," which covered several weeks in the summer of 2011. In their report, they wrote, "The TBRC investigator fired upon the animal with an auto-loading shotgun in an attempt to collect a specimen." Then they further described how they went tracking the "animal" by looking for blood spots left behind. Just as if they were hunting deer. I'm totally sickened by how they so matter-of-fact-ly, discuss the blatant attempt to kill a sasquatch, all in the name of research. How can they even call themselves "Conservancy?" Who the ______ do they think they are!?!?!?!? To me, it's like an anthropologist going to the Amazon and shooting a member of a pygmy tribe, so they can "collect a specimen," and prove their existence to the world. It's not like we're collecting insects or rodent's here! Sasquatch are far too near human, to be considered a "specimen." I'm sure I'll get some hate mail, but that's fine. I'm entitled to my opinion and so are they. I know 99% the bigfoot community does not condone this. Read the Operation Endurance report by Clicking Here.

What's more egregious is that they may have wounded one. So, what does that group of bigfoot think of humans now? What will they do to protect their family from human's? What would you do? I know what I'd do! Anyone who came into my home, uninvited, who I think might harm my family, will probably not leave alive. So how are these particular sasquatch going to react the next time a human is around? This was totally reckless and irresponsible on the TBRC's part. I've yet to read anywhere that they did not condone the behavior of the shooter. If they have, I apologize, but I've yet to find such. My eyes are literally buggin out of my head right now. My blood pressure is about to make my brain explode. What about you?

Then there's the whole "Sierra Kills" incident, which I've never addressed. I truly hope it's a hoax. Where Justin Smeja supposedly killed those 2 bigfoot, is an easlily traveled route, about 30 miles from where Woodrat and I have our suspected group moving trough. Because of real life issues, Woodrat and I haven't had the chance to overnight up there since the supposed shooting. I'm extremely disturbed at the fact that the sasquatch, we were trying to establish a rapport with, may have fallen victim to human stupidity. It's disturbing all together.

"There's no one in the world who causes more trouble than humans. They drive me crazy! I get so mad when I think about humans, I could scream!" ~Snoopy

The Rise of Bigfoot, TV, And Those Who Squatch

I've been looking at the recent search engine tags that have directed people here to SierraTahoeBigfoot.com. My hits are way up, and I'm sure it has to do with the popularity of the new show, Finding Bigfoot on Animal Planet. All of us who have the bigfoot bug, squatchfluenza, love to watch any and all squatch TV. Now, I think what the show has done, is bring a lot of bigfooty people out of the closet. Last year, I wrote about the stigma that goes along with being a "believer." Funny enough, it was when I was writing about Cliff Barackman, getting robbed of first place in a contest he participated in. (click to read more) Now look at him! For the noobs to my site, Cliff's blog was the inspiration for mine. I think I wrote about it at one point, and I know I did talk about it on my interview with Nite Callers Radio.

Yada, yada, yada...My point is? There are a lot more of you squatchy people out there than I thought there was!

This brings me to my next observation. By looking at some of the other tag words bringing people to this website, it seems as though there is a boom in those wanting to start their own quest to see a sasquatch. The main reason I do it is because I want to see one for myself. I've been interested in them since I was a kid in the 70s. Since I've been actively blogging, most of the folks I've talked to, that have seen a squatch tell me, "Be careful what you wish for." One guy I know of actually had a form of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) after he had an encounter last year. It involved pine cones being thrown into camp, and then waking up to one looking down on him through the ventilation screen, in the roof of his tent. He hasn't wanted to share more than that. End of story. It wasn't a violent encounter, but sometimes we react differently than we think we will. I'm sure most of us would be a little shook up after seeing the "boogeyman" for the first time. What I'd hate is for this type of unforseen reaction, to have a bad outcome. Either someone could wind up with PTSD, or worse yet, shoot one out of fear, or have a run in with a squatch that has been hurt by humans, and then decides to protect itself.

I'm not trying to deter anyone from going out on their own little sasquatch adventure. After all, most sightings are accidental, on the squatches part. They just wander into the path of an oncoming human, and get seen. With each encounter having varying degrees of reaction. Just remember, they are a lot smarter than most people give them credit for. Those of us that beat the bushes, dawning our GPS devices and cameras, have very little success in actually seeing one. I know I've been close to them, I know they were around me, but I've yet to see one. I can tell you after what experiences I've had, no one can tell me they are not real. I know there is some other species of bipedal hominid out there.

Ok, so I'm missing being out in the Sierras pounding the pine needles, enjoying the squatch's domain, so herein lies the motivation for my little rant. I know the popularity of the subject is taking many of you out there for the first time. I just want you to think things through. Imagine different scenarios, if you were to have an encounter and what you would do. Please be safe, but please also be respectful of them. They have been here much longer than we have.

Sasquatch: Sierra Tahoe Bigfoot Radio Interview Tonight

This was out of the blue and just got a call about an hour ago, to do an interview on the Nine Most Radio Show, on KCAA 1050 out of Loma Linda, CA.

I don't know what will be discussed on the show. I haven't had time to research or anything like that. I guess they, along with myself, will just be winging it. The fun part is that it will be all about talking Squatch.

They may just make fun of me, and make a joke out of it, I don't know. I'm not familiar with the show. I've done interviews before, so either way.... I'll have fun. Just thought some of you would want to listen.

I start at 7:05pm tonight (Pacific time). Not sure how long I'll be on. Here's the link:

Sasquatch: Squatchin with Woodrat

July 24, 2010

Well, it had definitely been a while. I haven't been out squatching since May. With the advent of the passing of my dad, then some personal , and financial setbacks, I just haven't had the opportunity to get back out there. The economy has been tough on a lot of us. This being said, I have now have plenty of time to squatch, but the costs of even taking day trips, is hard for me to justify at this time.

A couple of months ago, I was introduced to a squatcher, who goes by the name, “Woodrat.” I was contacted by Larry, from SierraSquatch.com, who told me about Woodrat's, multiple encounters with squatches, in the northeastern Sierras. Larry thought I might be interested in comparing notes with Woodrat, as we both live in Reno, and are exploring the same general area.

Honestly, I was hesitant at first. It's not that I was leery of sharing my info with him, but I am rather set in my ideas of how I like to act, and what methods I employ while in the field. My approach is to just be normal as possible. I'm just some dude, walking through the woods. I don't try sneaking around. I'm not covered in camo thinking I'm going to outwit any bigfoot into revealing themselves to me. I believe that when I'm out there, that if I get the opportunity to see one, it will be on their terms, not mine. For me, it's pinpointing an area that I suspect maybe a travel corridor for sasquatches, and simply hiking the area, while keeping my awareness sharp, and my head on a swivel, watching for possible signs and/or tracks. Then I hope our paths cross, with a safe, harmonious, outcome. Almost all sightings are accidental, on both the humans', and the sasquatches' part. Correct?

A couple weeks after Larry contacted me, I finally gave Woodrat a call. We spoke for a good hour or more. I listened intently as he recounted his various encounters he's had, in the general vicinity that I had been working. We actually hit it off rather well. Both of us like to fish and squatch, so it's hard not to get along. Woodrat is one of those guys, unlike myself, with the “grande marbles,” who ventures out alone. As I've stated before, I'm a big chicken, so I never squatch solo. During a family camping trip in 2008, a female squatch walked through their camp, at dusk, while Woodrat's wife and baby girl were there alone, as he was out doing a little recon. The wife's brief encounter scared the heck out of her. Now she won't go camping anymore, and no longer wants Woodrat to go out alone either. So, now she's much happier that Woodrat has someone to squatch with. My squatch partner, my nephew Hank, has recently moved up to Salem, OR. So, I'm glad too, now that I have someone to baby sit me while I'm bounding around the beautiful Sierras.

Saturday, July 24, 2010, Woodrat and I ventured out to the area of the northeastern Sierras where he's had his encounters, His area of concentration was just 20 miles from where I had been exploring. Neither of us like to go out on weekends, due to all the possible human traffic, but it was the only day that worked for us, so we went. It had been over 2 months since I was last out in the mountains. I had bad case of testosterone overload, amping up my anticipation for this trip. Saturday or not, any day I get to squatch, is a good day.

At first, we drove through very active recreation areas and full campgrounds. I thought to myself, “Uh-oh.” Then Woodrat veered off the highway, on to a forest road, then a logging road, then another, and another. Before I knew it, we were deep in the forest, at about 7000 feet in elevation. The road, was narrow and dusty and looked like it hadn't been traveled on for some time. Most of the forest was dark and thick, so finding corridors of possible movement was going to be more obvious, and easier to find.

After about 30 minutes of driving down this old dusty road, we turned into a smaller road, about 7 feet wide, overgrown with brush on each side. The screeching sounds of branches rubbing against the paint of his truck, reminded me of nails on a chalkboard. After a couple hundred yards, it began to open up, and then the forest gave way to a meadow. I thought to myself, “This is feeling rather squatchy.”

It feeling squatchy is a good thing. It has been a few months since I'd been up in the deep Sierras, so now I'm dying to get out of the truck.

Woodrat said not to bother putting my 35 pound pack on. We were only going to do a quick recon of the area for squatch signs.

Will follow up on more later.....................
