Sierra Tahoe Bigfoot Research

This site is dedicated to the research of bigfoot, and it's habitat, in the Tahoe and outlying Sierra region of Nevada and California. We listen to witnesses who want to talk about their experiences, and keep them confidential unless otherwise requested. Our mission is to learn as much as we can about the possible existence of the sasquatch, in the hope that we can all gather a better knowledge of the species, then ultimately, we as a race understand that it's habitat, and way of life, must be protected.

BIGFOOT: Aggressive Encounter With Multiple Sasquatch in the Jarbidge Mountains, Northern Nevada

Jarbidge Mountains, NV from IsuzuGeek.org

I recently received a report from a Reno man, regarding some possible encounters he's had with sasquatch, over the past few years. The following is an excerpt from his most compelling interaction, of which he also had an eye to eye sighting that lasted several seconds.

It was 10-15 minutes tops, from when I laid down and I started hearing movement outside the tarp and began hearing the squishing of the mud under something's feet. It was moving very stealthily and came up to within a few feet of the tarp directly behind my head and stopped. I'm lying there trying to decipher the sound I just heard and the tarp starts being pushed down at my mid section. It was pushed down about a foot and me not thinking at all and really freaking out on the inside without making noise on the outside reacted and swatted at the pushed down area and hit something pretty hard that hurt my hand. The tarp went back up immediately and what was standing there shuffled back and smacked the tarp directly behind my head causing me to let out an “AHHHHHH!!!!!!” sound and I consequently re-chambered a round into my Glock .45.

Please go over to our Nevada Sasquatch site to read this excellent description that the witness wrote up.

BIGFOOT: More Prints From The Lake Tahoe Area and Surrounding Sierras

Sorry to have neglected posting anything in the past couple months. We haven't had a chance to get out of town often enough, and when we did, our trips were rather uneventful. I will however catch you all up on some of the more interesting things that I haven't posted yet.

This is a print from a trackway we found near the area where C had his sighting (see)Christmas Weekend, about 3 weeks after his sighting. You can compare the size of it with my size 11.5 boot print below it. Click on Image to Enlarge. Note that the melt adds about 3 inches to it, as it was sloped downhill to the southeast so the rising sun would hit that back of that heel, and melt it away, elongating the heel. You can pretty easily see where the original heel impression came down.

This is a pic of the trackway itself. That's my buddy on the right. If you click on the pic to enlarge it, you can see that I marked the stride in the long yellow lines. A human gait usually does not straddle a line like that... a squatch's gait does. The insteps line up perfectly. The back heel's are marked in blue. Stride length was 5 to 6 feet. The trackway came up a steep rocky slope, through manzanita, from the top left of the pic. Not a place a human could have traversed, especially in those conditions. On the left side of the trackway, there were some human boot prints that were fresher, along with a rabbit hopping through the snow, and some canine prints.

This is a print found in a patch of snow, outside a cabin located just a couple miles from the south shore on Lake Tahoe. back in Feb. Click on Photo to Enlarge. The lady and her husband found it and sent it to me for my opinion. It was unusually warm at times this winter in the Tahoe area, nor did we receive a lot of snow. This was a lone print in one of the remaining patches of snow in their yard. Definite toe line, with decent toe impressions. She said it was on a slope and you can see where the outside of the foot, and heel slipped down and made a secondary impression of the outer edge of the foot. Looks to be 16 to 17 inches. It was a warm day and that print had been in direct sunlight at one point in the day, and also some light rain. Not a lot of fallen pine debris in the print, so I'm thinking it was made the night or two before. She hadn't noticed it the day before. Before finding the print, they also heard some loud crashing in the trees down the road from their house, which freaked them out a bit, since there were no other neighbors around. Then they came upon the track. The couple's grandson actually saw it first, pointed and said, "Bigfoot!"

BIGFOOT: Possible Sasquatch Track-way Near Genoa, NV

This is long overdue. I have finally gotten around to getting this excellent report posted of a possible sasquatch track-way found in Genoa, Nevada. I want to thank J., and also apologize to him for taking so long to get this on here. I had him write his own description, since he has tracking experience, which he elaborates on, below. There are 15 different photos that were taken of the tracks he found. Please bare in mind that he returned a week later, to take the photos of the tracks, as he didn't have a camera with him when he first came upon them.

As I usually do, I have XXXX out the location details, as I want to keep the masses from trying to locate the area which is just behind his house. Please appreciate that I do this for J's family's privacy, as well as the squatch's.

Hi Chuck.

Attached are the photos in sequence. You have my permission to use them on your "Sierra Tahoe Bigfoot" site. I did add a copyright to each photo, but I tried to position it so that it would not interfere with the visual. If you intend to use these anywhere else, please ask me first.

Here are some more details...

The day that I came across the tracks was September 22nd, 2013. It had rained the night before, so the ground was pliable. I recently had moved into Genoa and had never before been on this trail. My jog started by going up the XXXX XXXX until I found the XXXX Trail. That took me toward Genoa XXXX. There are two streams in that area. Shortly after where the trail crossed the second stream, the trail split. It saw a high and low trail that would come back together a few hundred yards away. I took the high road.
Step Two (Click on photos to enlarge)
Step Two with comparison

The first track I saw was "Step Two," and I immediately was shocked. I am a certified tracker, former President of a Search and Rescue Organization in a CA county, and avid hunter. I knew that no recorded animal could make that track. I double checked to see if a bear track had doubled to make the mark on the ground. That was not the case. What I did see startled me even more. I could actually make out the impression left by the individual toes. I have taken several bear in my life, and they do not leave track like that!

The print was sunk so far into the decomposed granite soil that it would be hard to even fake such a thing. It really would take something over 600 pounds to compress the ground like that. As you could see, my 210 pounds did nothing to the ground! I knew these tracks were also very fresh because the soil was cracked showing moist points underneath since it had rained the day before. Whatever left those tracks was very near by.

Now this was my first time on this trail, and I had no idea exactly where it would pop out in town. I also wasn't sure how long it would take me to get the heck out of the woods before dark. I hoped that the trail wouldn't zig zag down the mountain because I would likely run into the maker of the tracks. But before running away, I took the time to look at the rest of the track way.

Photo 1. Sliding off the hill

I looked at tracks(steps)2-6 (see below) and realized that the creature had stutter stepped behind the pine tress in the picture and then turned down hill. This made me want to see where the tracks came from, and it appears that it had come from further up the mountain, slid of the embankment to the trail (See photo 1,) stutter stepped to catch it's balance behind the trees (See photos 2-13 below,) and then turned to continue down the mountain (to the right of the trees in photo 13.)

Further down the mountain I cut the tracks again. (See photo 14) I took a picture of the slide print on the trail as well as the approach from above the trail. (See photo 15) It looks to me like the critter uses his heel a lot when trail blazing down a mountain. I hoped that this would be the last crossing I would make as it was after 7:00PM and really getting dark in the woods. I would not be so lucky.

Photo 14 (Click on photos to enlarge)
Photo 15. Tracks coming down Hill to second crossing

I was really running hard to get out before dark. By the time I got to the bottom where the trail had merged with the Genoa XXXX, it was very hard to see anything beyond the trail. Right before the trail crossed the creek, I smelt it. It smelt like I just stepped in dog crap. Most other reports indicate that Sasquatch smells like a rotten skunk, but this smelled like freshly laid dog feces, and I couldn't help but think of the ladies that saw bigfoot up Sierra Canyon a couple decades ago. They saw it and said that it stunk like that. Since I was unarmed, I did not try to stop and investigate. In fact, I ran a little harder!

The Monday after seeing the tracks, I mentioned something to the guys at work. They suggested that I go up and take pictures. I would have, but I was very busy with work and had to fly out on a business meeting with a new client in the middle of the week. When I came back, the guys still prodded me to go back and get the photos. So on Sunday September 29th (Candy Dance weekend,) I went back and took the photos you see here. Even a week old, it is amazing how clear the tracks were. I doubt anyone had even been there that week since the trail gets very little use. A rock had fallen into one track that was obvious foreign, so I took the photo with and without the rock in place.

One other thing to note... There were plenty of fresh deer tracks in XXXX, but there was absolutely none in Genoa Canyon. While bigfoot likely follows the deer herd, the deer are probably smart enough to keep their distance. Perhaps this is why so many deer hang out in the town of Genoa instead of the hills.

I have run this route several times since this experience. On one occasion I did see a track in the snow that could have been from a squatch, but it could have likely been from something else. Since there were so many other tracks over the track way and I only had one interesting track, I decided to skip recording it.

Again, I'd like to thank J. for his time and effort in sharing his report with us.

BIGFOOT: Christmas Weekend 2013 Sasquatch Sighting, South of Minden, Nevada in Alpine County, California

I received a great sighting report that occurred on December 28, 2013, about 35 miles south of Minden, Nevada, in Alpine County, California.

The report came from a gentleman that sent me a report back in April, 2013. CLICK HERE to read. He mentioned that he’d keep in touch if he went back out again. He returned to his area of interest, and had a sighting, the weekend after this past Christmas. Here is his report that he wrote just as he returned home from his sighting:

Witness:
“Hi Chuck, went back to the area that I'd found the tracks from last April. As you know there hasn't been much snow and was able to get back there as it would normally be closed due to snow. Any ways I parked and started going up the mountainside towards the creek when I heard something large walking through the brush on the other side of the creek that goes up a different mountain side. I quickly turned around and went back to my vehicle and got out of there and headed back down the road about a half mile or so and parked where XXXX Creek is and went hiking around there. Once I got across the half frozen creek, I scanned the ridge top that divided me from where I had heard something walking.

I quickly saw a very large creature standing on top of a rock that was on the ridge top. He was just standing there looking down at the valley below where I was and soaking in the sun as it was starting to set as it was about 3:20 PM. I could see the sun shining on his hair which was brownish grey. He must of been about 8 feet or taller and about 600 to 800 pounds. I watched him for about 6 minutes and then it went to the other side of the ridge that the sun was shining on. It was also on the side of the mountain where I heard the noise. It must of ran quite quickly up to the ridge to watch me drive away to the new spot. I was pretty excited just being able to observed him through the binoculars I forgot about the camera. About ten minutes later after not seeing him I took a photo of the rock he was on which is just left of the tree. If you look at the far rock outcropping to the right of the tree, the bigfoot was almost as big as that. I didn't see any breasts and assumed it was a male. This is probably the same bigfoot that made those tracks from last April and lives in this particular area year round. Nobody was in the area the whole time I was there which I stayed till 4:30 when it was starting to get dark.”
This is my rendering of the sasquatch standing on the ridge that the witness saw through his binoculars

We agreed that I’d keep the location confidential so that is the reason for some of the location details being X’d out. I wrote him back with a few questions:

Me:
“That is AWESOME! CONGRATS! So has it sunk in at all on what you saw today? Your email was kinda matter of fact, but I think, emotionally you must be pretty amped up. So you were looking at it through your binos? Did you see it pretty clearly? Make out the face at all? Do you mind if I post your sighting to the website?”

He replied:

Witness:
“It was spooky as nobody was there in that area as it was getting darker. I could’ve drove back to the original area where I first was but wasn't going to do that being by myself. It's spooky enough on a bright summer day in that area. I couldn't get a good clear look at his face but could see the shine on the hair due do to the setting sun. I could easily see the bulk and height as he stood out on the rock like a sore thumb. That rock was a great look out point as you could see quite of bit around the area. Like to mention that summer I went up above to the right of that arch and sat for hours scanning the mountains especially the ridge tops. The area I'd scanned the most was that particular ridge as there was what appeared to be a large opening in the side of the mountain just up and below where that bigfoot went over on the other side. It's interesting to note that is the same direction that the tracks were leading too. (Referring to his April 2013 report) In the photo of the arch on your website where it shows me inside the arch looking back down to where I found the tracks, you can see the mountain across the stream where it would lead back up to that ridge top where I saw the bigfoot go down the other side.
Side of the ridge that the subject approached from and went back down

I saw the bigfoot as I stood looking directly across the creek from the XXXX at XXXX_XXXX. Yes I was excited but I kept calm as I enjoyed a rare view of a creature that seem to be very relaxed in it's home environment even though it was cold out. I don't think I would want to be up close and face to face with this bigfoot, only from a distance. Plus the fact I now have a special respect for bigfoot now after observing him, don't want to bother him or her getting too closely if I can help it.”

I know there will be those of you who will comment on why he didn't take a picture of it. Think of being in that situation. You're alone, near dusk, and in essence, you're searching for the boogeyman. Then you see it. Unless you are in that situation, you will never know how you will react. I had a similar experience. I've described it before, but will do so again.

My first overnight trip squatching in 2010, we heard vocalizations moving down from the upper elevations, moving down a valley toward us. We were camped out on one side of a meadow, nestled in a valley with a seasonal stream flowing through it. We heard two distinct individuals, on each side of the valley, grunting, howling and/or whooping as they got closer. Reminded me of monkeys. It sounded as if they we're signalling each other every minute or two, to let the other know where they were. As the vocalizations reached a distance that I thought they would be visible at the game trail across the meadow from us, I grabbed my camera and waited. Camera gripped tightly in my right hand.

Across the meadow, I see a small fir tree, about 10 feet tall, start shaking, then I see some dark brown fir. I quietly tried to get my buddy's attention. The tree was still shaking violently, and more fur visible, and whatever it was seemed rather large. I was transfixed this whole time. I was barely able to talk.

"Hey! Hey! It's a....It's a...." I was stuttering because I was thinking I was about to see a sasquatch. It's about 120 yards away. The sun had just set, and there was just enough light to still clearly see, as it finally emerged from the tree line.

"It's a... It's a bear." It was a good sized black bear, about 350 pounds or so. From the time I first was some fur, until I could clearly see what it was, was a span of about 20-30 seconds.

My point being that I was telling myself before hand, "Get the camera up ASAP!" Then, when this was going on, I never lifted the camera up, or even turned it on.

So I figured I'd follow up again with the witness to cover the topic:

Me:
"I airbrushed a squatch into the pic for scale. I'm not sure if it ever faced toward you like I drew it, but mainly it is for scale..... Another point, if you want to address it. I know you were in awe of what you were looking at through the binos, so is that why you never thought of the camera? I did the same when I thought I saw a squatch breaking through a tree line, but it ended up being a bear. I was so transfixed that I never raised my camera, which I was gripping in my right hand, ready to go. I know a bunch of folks are going to make comments asking why you never got your camera out, so I was going to mention my experience with it, and if you want to add your thoughts, that would be even better."

Witness:
"Photo is awesome and comes close in capturing what I saw and hope others could imagine how I felt by looking at the picture with the bigfoot standing on the ridge. Wasn't even thinking of the camera till it was too late. I waited for the bigfoot to appear again so I could get a photo but it was becoming too dark and I finally left."

I want to thank the witness for keeping in touch with me, and letting me share his experience here. We've made tentative plans to go squatchin in that area, and will definitely share that when it happens.

BIGFOOT VIDEO: The Animal Planet Show Focuses on Sasquatch the Sierras and Lake Tahoe Region

Tonight, you can catch the show where they discuss bigfoot sightings and vocalizations in and around Lake Tahoe.

Since the show has become so popular, you will be able to catch it over the next couple weeks as they replay episodes through the week.

Something else that caught my attention is a great video interview with a recent witness, who is retired law enforcement. The sighting happened at South Fork Lakes, which is about 20 miles Southwest of Lone Pine, CA. The lakes are at an elevation of 11,000 feet. The interview was done by Tom Yamarone. If you've never heard of Mr. Yamarone, he is a musician, who loves the squatch. I'll provide a link to his website below the video.

I just checked the weather report. We have a major cold system moving through the area right now. Up where we squatch, the poor sasquatches are enduring sub zero Fº temperatures right now! Yikes!

I'll be writing more after I get a chance to watch the Tahoe Episode of Finding Bigfoot.

Tom's site is at www.bigfootsongs.com.

BIGFOOT: Recent Vocalizations and Screams Recorded in the Daytime

The following video from Bruno, WV captured some of the best bigfoot vocalizations I've heard, especially recorded in the day. Though close to dusk, the sounds are captured on video of what is believed to be a bigfoot. Headphones or earbuds are recommended to enhance the sound quality, as this was recorded during a pretty heavy rainstorm.

BIGFOOT: Possible Sasquatch Caught on Video, The Turtleman, and My Return to the Sierras

I am back in Reno now. Finally. My friend Woodrat and I have made a couple day trips up into the Sierras, and really have nothing of interest to report. We explored our usual areas, and ventured out to some lesser explored spots. We were able to stay until 10 PM on our last trip. We heard some distant knocks, and whistles, but took them with a grain of salt. With the popularity of the television show, Finding Bigfoot, it is hard to rule out humans making the sounds I've heard. Unless it is close and definitive, and by "definitive", I mean that if you've ever heard a squatch up close, it's hard to conclude that any other person or animal could have produced some of the sounds I've heard, and felt. Yes, I said, "felt." On several occasions, I've heard some low murmurs and growls, that I could feel vibrating in my lungs. I liken it to being at a red light, next to one of those idiots with the window shaking sub-woofers, blasting in their car, and you can actually feel it. It is a very unsettling to feel your lungs vibrate in your chest. I want to reiterate that it did not happen on this trip, but it has in the past. (Read about Infrasound on Cliff Barackman's site) We actually got so bored that we even broke my rule of no whooping or yelling to try and get a response. That also produced no results. I figured, in the least, if other humans were around, we'd hear a response, but we got nothing.

Aspen and willows coming back in an area that burned in a massive forest fire 20 years ago.

The springs, that usually hold water year round, were dry. These springs are what we attribute to all the activity we've witnessed, as we believe the bigfoot use this chain of springs, as a travel corridor for the area. With them empty, we had no action. One good sign was that there was still a good amount of deer in the area. The undergrowth was dry, and it seemed like there was more Bark Beetle damage this year also. The drought conditions being experienced in the region, really seem to be taking it's toll. With little food, in the mountains, the bears are really on the move. Both times we were up there, we had bear encounters. One came out of the bushes, near a stream, and charged Woodrat. He had just enough time to draw his pistol, and fire off a warning shot, that luckily scared the large bull bear off, from just 30 feet away. It's gotten so bad, that the drought conditions are bringing more bears than usual down into Reno, with 3 captured this past week alone by the Nevada Division of Wildlife.

One of the areas still holding water, away from our area of concentration.

The cold weather has moved into the area now. The ski resorts like Heavenly, Mount Rose and Squaw Valley are glad the season came early. It is more than likely that we will not be squatching on this side of the Sierras, until April. We hope to get out to the west side though for a winter trip or two.

A couple interesting videos were released recently, of possible sasquatch caught on video.

This first one was posted by a rather well known bow hunter, Tim Wells, who has a hunting show on the Sportsman Channel. I have some issues with this video. The squatch looks so fake. On the flip side, the gentleman in the video are genuine and quite believable. If they were acting, they did a really good job. I can't believe someone would be so stupid as to hoax them, while they are on a hunt, unless the hoaxer was wanting to commit suicide-by-hunter. I also believe that Mr. Wells wouldn't jeopardize his reputation to post a goofy hoax on YouTube. So watch the video below, and you can decide for yourself.

This next video is more compelling to me. Though, it's blurry because the camera was focusing on the vegetation between the videographer and the supposed squatch, what's got me is that is seems rather massive when you see it stand up. If it's a suit, it looks well done. The main thing that has me thinking it is a bigfoot, is that at :26 seconds, into the video, the subject extends it's arm to the right to cast off some of the tree it is tearing apart. There are some other negative issues to the video, but that arm length is not proportional to that of a human. To me, it resembles the arm length similar to that of an Orangutan. It is out of focus and it could just be playing tricks on me, but at that part of the video is when I stopped, and thought.... "Wait a minute." You be the judge.....

This last video is of Earnie, the Turtleman, from Animal Planet's show, The Call of the Wildman. He tells of his possible encounter with a Sasquatch when he was a kid. He claimed it was the most frightened he has ever been in his life.

I just want to thank you for your patience. I should be posting more now that I'm home. I'm glad to be back.

BIGFOOT SAMURAI CHATTER: Ron Morehead Presentation In Reno, Nevada This Weekend

My friend John has started a group in Reno for those interested in sasquatch research. He has a great guest speaker, making a presentation tomorrow.

Back in the 1970's, Ron Morehead had some experiences in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, where he was able to record some amazing audio, of what is to believed to be sasquatch communicating in a complex language structure. Within the bigfoot community, these recordings have come to be known as the "Samurai Chatter." For those of you that are old enough to remember, the recordings remind me of John Belushi's Samurai character on Saturday Night Live. I'm thinking that is where the name came from. This would be a great opportunity to hear Mr. Morehead discuss his work, and what studies have been done on his recordings.

Here's the email that my friend John sent out regarding the event:

Ron Morehead, of Bigfoot Sounds, will be appearing at Archie’s Restaurant, 2195 N. Virginia St, in Reno, Nevada on Saturday Sept. 21st.

Time starts at 8:00am
Lecture duration: 45 minutes (approx.)
Afterwards there will be time for Questions and Answers and getting acquainted.

Ron will be lecturing on the subject of ‘SASQUATCH’. His study encompasses many years of research from a variety of resources including personal experiences, and encounters with these ‘Beings’. Learning from different Indian tribes Ron has gained further knowledge about the ‘Hairy Mans’ background . Using a Power Point program Ron will present a display of audio and visuals enhancing the lecture you will find incredible.

This is a rare occasion for us to have Ron J. Morehead visit with us as a ‘Special Guest’.
All Sasquatch Researchers and public are welcome to attend.

This is going to be an impressive presentation that you DON’T WANT TO MISS!

It is encouraged for all who attend to patronize the business of Archie’s and show your gratitude to the waitress that serves you. The employees work very hard and deserve a monetary token of appreciation.

See you on Saturday morning.

BIGFOOT: Recent Sighting Report Near Gardnerville, NV

I recently received a report on a sighting near Gardnerville, NV. It was left in the comment section of Bigfoot Sighting In Genoa, Nevada, which was posted back in 2010. This newest comment/report from july 2, 2013 was left anonymously, as most comments are. I'm leaving out details until I can collect more information from the witness, and I've taken it off the comment section of the aforementioned post. Here are the brief details of the sighting:

This is so crazy still to me, that I came across this blog after today....if it weren't for what my girls and I encountered today, I would have never looked this up! We were in most of the day because of storming outside, and we kept hearing the strangest noises out in the swampy area behind us. After about an hour we decided to go out to take a look. The water fowl started going crazy, and before we knew it, we seen the figure of a gorilla like animal about 300 feet out in the swamp. We found strange tracks, but never would have guessed anything like this! While I am still skeptical. I am really watching now, and the kids aren't playing outside on the patio alone.

I'd really like to follow up and ask a few questions. I'd appreciate it if the witness would please contact me again at stbigfoot@gmail.com. Please know that privacy and respect is of utmost importance to me when handling witness reports.

Thank you.

BIGFOOT: Questions from a High School Senior

Over the weekend, I received a request from a young lady, asking if I'd answer some bigfoot related questions for a report she was writing for school. I gladly accepted. I get a question or two every now and then, usually from elementary aged kids. This time, I thought it was way cool that an older student, a high school senior from Senatobia, Mississippi, was writing a report on the subject of sasquatch. I would have gotten a little more in depth in my answers if I'd have known beforehand that she was senior, but I didn't ask her until after the fact. Nonetheless, the questions were answered with what I considered to be easy, and as concisely as I could put them.

After our email exchange, I asked what her motivation was to write about Bigfoot, and she had this to say, "I choose to write on this topic because there is such controversy behind it as to whether it is true or not, and also very interesting!"

Here are the questions and answers:

1. What do you think Bigfoot's social life is like? Lives in groups? Lives alone? Migrates?

With all that I’ve read, heard and observed, my thought is that they live in what I call, Family groups. I believe that there is a dominant male, with females and children. The adolescent aged male squatches, I believe, are the protectors of the group. I do believe some groups do migrate to follow food sources. It would all depend on climate and geography of course. As the groups move, which most agree, would be at night, the males move out ahead of the group, like scouts, laying out safe passage for the rest of the group. This is evidenced by vocalizations heard at night. The males vocalize, and tree knock, to guide the rest of the group. I strongly believe that is why most sightings are of males, and why they usually turn and walk or run the other way to avoid prolonged contact.

2. Do you believe Bigfoot is an undiscovered species? Why or why not?

Yes. From all I’ve seen, heard and experienced, no one can tell me that they don’t exist. Every native tribe in the US and Canada, have a name for bigfoot, and stories of encounters with them, told through their tribal history. I believe them.

I have people I know that have had sightings, and since, they are obsessed with the subject of bigfoot. They devote most of their time off work, researching to learn more. Hundreds of people report seeing them every year. Are they all liars? I don’t think so.

Many credible people in US history have written about encounters with sasquatch. President Theodore Roosevelt, Daniel Boone, Lewis and Clark are a few examples. You can google their names with bigfoot and read more about them.

World renown scientists, like Dr. Jane Goodall and Dr. Jeff Meldrum, believe they exist, and believe more work needs to be done in the field of research. Thousands of footprint casts have been collected, from very remote areas. Some of the better specimens have dermal ridges present, and these can not be faked. I believe some hoaxes exist, but there are too many good samples out there, gathered by credible people.

Hair and DNA samples have shown they are from an unknown species of primate. I think the biggest problem is that there hasn't been a major university, that has stepped forward to do a thorough study on the subject. Oxford University is now in the middle of putting together a study on hair and DNA, so we will see how that plays out.

3. What made you become a Bigfoot researcher?

You can read the answer to this in the About Me section on the website. (Down the right column of this webpage.)

4. Is a body needed for scientists to acknowledge Bigfoot's existence?

It is the easiest way to prove it, but I feel it is ethically wrong to kill one to do so. I think clear video interaction, and DNA gathering is enough. The species have survived thousand of years with out us knowing about them, I’m not sure if proving their existence is a good thing or not.

5. Why hasn't Bigfoot become especially common since they are not hunted, are without known predators, and appear to have a sustainable source of food and shelter?

I think their numbers are growing. This is why sighting reports have been rising, and the reports of sightings of multiple squatch seems to be more common. I believe their population was critical back in the 19th and early 20th century when it was more common for humans to be carrying guns. There are several historical reports in newspapers and stories of them being shot, and sometimes even hunted down. I believe they learned that humans were dangerous, and that is why they have been so elusive and try to avoid us as much as they can. Now, it seems in some sightings, they are getting more curious about us, and in some cases, are not as quick to avoid us.

In reading over the Q&A, it occurred to me that "I" was used quite a bit. It's because she asked my opinion, but in reading it again, it made me feel like an egotistical know it all. Haha. Where my opinions come from is a product of what I've learned from other researchers, comparing notes, reading, and experiences form the field over the past several years.

I want to thank this young lady for the questions and allowing me to share it here. Maybe, she can share her finished report with us. I know I'd love to read it.

BIGFOOT: Possible Tracks Found South Of Minden, Nevada Near Ebbetts Pass

A man who lives in Minden, Nevada shared some photos and his observations of possible tracks he found near the Ebbetts Pass area, just across the California border. Some details of the exact location have been withheld as he plans on returning for more exploration. Here's what he shared:

Hi, you told me to keep you updated if I came across any signs of Bigfoot in the Ebbetts Pass area when you responded to my comment with the Woodfords sighting. Went hiking near Ebbetts Pass today April 1 2013 with my two young kids when we came across two separate Sasquatch prints. We went as far as we could till the road was blocked with two signs saying road closed. We turned around and parked just maybe 25 yards or so on the right hand side westbound off on a dirt road that went back 25 yards until there was a patch of snow.

We went over to XXXXXXX Creek to take a look as we were going to go up the canyon following the creek but saw an rock arch up on a peak with my binocular and decided to head there which was off to the left of the creek. Shortly heading up we came upon a patch of snow and saw the first large print in the snow. The snow was hard so the impression wasn't that deep but with a fresh dusting of snow, the print really stood out(without tape measure I was figuring the print to be at least 16 inches long and 7 inches wide). Unfortunately my little boy lost his balance and slid into the track and destroying it before I could get my measuring tape and camera out. The track was headed in the direction we were going, up the mountain.

When we got 2/3 of the way up this very steep mountainside, we found the second print in moist soil under the large pines. The print was going toward XXXXXXX Creek. My little girl was holding the tape measure for me while I took the photo. Where she is holding the tape measure would be the back of the heel and with the tip of the measure two inches away from the toes as she moved the tape measure towards her just as I was taking the photo. The size of the print is 17 inches long and almost 7 inches wide. If you look about three inches below the 13 inch mark, you should be able to see a dropping from a deer as there were a few of them. So it appears the Sasquatch was following a deer trail towards the creek. Just a few feet west of the foot print was the clearing to where you can see the rock arch in the photo.
We hiked up to the arch afterwards and went through the arch which was pretty awesome as it was like a little hidden fortress. In the back of that little fortress against the rock cliff was a tall narrow cave as we couldn't get to it, too risky. I took a photo of the arch looking through down to where we saw the footprint in the trees which you can see in the bottom of the photo. We named the arch Bigfoot Arch as it does look like a foot print. I had no idea that this rock arch was there as you can't see it from the road due to the tall trees. Also there is no trail anywhere in sight as we picked are way through the brush.

There were Sasquatch prints on an old dirt road found back in 2005 in April by some mountain bikers in a canyon just east(1/2 a mile) from where we were just across from Silver Mountain City(old mining town from the 1800s). I'd hike that same canyon last week but didn't come across any signs of Sasquatch. I felt this was a great time to go searching for Sasquatch foot prints being that there is no one back on Hwy 4 due to it being closed. Today I didn't see a single vehicle all the way from Markleeville as we had the whole area to ourselves. I'm guessing we were probably several miles from the deer hunter sighting from last September off of Wolf Creek Road which is in the BFRO database.
In a follow-up email, he added:
Hi, I gave you the wrong date with the mountain bikers aho saw some track neaby by where we were. It was the year 2000, not 2005. The report number is 802 on the BFRO. The 2005 report was a man and woman hiking just over the mountain from where we were above Blue Lakes with the man seeing some tracks. I wish I had some casting material as I'm pretty new to actually looking for Bigfoot. I've always believed sasquatch existed due to the Patterson film but never gave it much thought to actually look for Bigfoot on my many backpacking trips in the trinities where I like to backpack since I was a young man. What got me interested in Bigfoot was hearing the writer who wrote Missing 411 talking on a radio show. I ordered his books Missing 411 along with The Hoopa Project which drove me to actually put my full attention looking for Sasquatch signs like today which panned out.

.... Right now all the deer are hanging out on the west side of 395 in big herds. I would suspect Bigfoot hanging out in the mountain peaks above, as there was a deer kill along a creek that heads west over to Monitor Pass and beyond to where I was hiking today.
I appreciate this gentleman for sharing his observations with us. I would like to note that I find him to be very credible. He works for a state agency and this is why his identity is being withheld.

If you have anything you'd like to share with us, I'm always happy to hear from you.

SASQUATCH: New Photo Released Of Possible Bigfoot And Why Out Of Focus?

This video showing the picture was recently put out on YouTube. Take a look and judge for yourself.

The guys commenting on the picture talk about the out of focus problem, as with most pictures of supposed sasquatch. In this case, as with most cases, I believe it's the product of an amateur photographer with an amateur type camera in low light conditions. Unless you are savvy to the more technical side of photography, you're probably using a fully automatic, point and shoot type camera. So, in this instance, it was in a darker, shadowy forest setting. There is no apparent sunlight shining in, possibly taken at dusk. In those conditions, an automatic camera would make adjustments to capture as much light as possible. This would cause the shutter speed to be slowed down quite a bit, to let more light in to the camera, to make a brighter image. This would cause the blurring effect of a fast moving object. I believe the background is out of focus because the photographer was following the subject as it was running away, or possibly lifting the camera to get the subject into frame, so not only was the subject moving fast, but the camera was probably moving quickly in order to get the supposed squatch into frame.

Modern technology is a hindrance in most cases. Sightings usually last only seconds. I know with my older point and shoot, it was always set to auto mode, to speed things up. Being an older digital camera, it took at least 4 seconds to power on, then I'd have to raise it up to frame the subject, and if I depressed the shutter button quickly, it wouldn't allow the camera's auto focus to properly adjust, so any pics taken in haste, were usually out of focus. Swinging the camera into position, in low a light setting, like under a forest canopy, and trying to frame and focus on a moving subject, all ads up to blurry and out of focus photographs. With automatic cameras, focus can be a big issue too. Especially if you are in a forest, and your subject is visible only through trees and vegetation, the auto-focus is going to have difficulty discerning what it is focusing on. Especially in the case if you zoom in. Focus tends to be slower and less accurate if there are multiple objects between you and the subject. The only way to correct these issues is to make adjustments to the camera's exposure, and then have the ability to manually focus. Point and shoot cameras don't allow for focusing manually. Video cameras will behave in much of the same manner. In low light, video will turn out grainy or foggy looking, causing the out-of-focus look.

Most of the new entry level DSLR cameras have amazing low light capability, if you know how to properly adjust the settings for the environment you're in. For those who are not familiar, DSLR cameras are the ones that have the detachable lenses, such as the Canon EOS line and Nikon D3100 and D5200. You can get some of these cameras in a kit with lens and bag for $400-$500 at Costco, Sam's or BestBuy. There are many great tutorials, tips and examples of the 1080p HD videos these are able to take as well as the high resolution photos these cameras are capable of.

This is an example I found on YouTube of video shot in a low light, forest setting on an overcast day. Look how clear objects are when focused on. You can get a wider range of focus. In this video, the videographer purposely set the camera to blur the background to focus on certain subjects, to get a more cinematic effect. Photographs are just as professional looking with these DSLR type cameras. This was shot with a Nikon D5200.

Remember, when a person has a sighting, they are not in the clearest or calmest frame of mind. The adrenalin starts flowing, nerves go into overload and in the excitement, fumbling with the camera and getting a great picture would be near impossible, especially if the sighing only lasts a few seconds. Unless you are a professional photographer, or at least a seasoned hobbyist, with your gear set for the light conditions at that precise moment, along with all the other variables, it would be pure luck to snap a decent photograph.

Photography has always been a serious hobby of mine. Economic conditions have just held me back from acquiring new gear. I plan on buying new camera equipment in the next few months, in time for summer in the Sierras. I'll probably post more on the subject of photography if requested. I hope this helps understand the anomaly of out-of-focus blob squatches.

Email me at stbigfoot@gmail.com if you'd like some thoughts about how you can use your current gear to get a better photo when you're out squatchin.

SASQUATCH: Bigfoot Vocalizations - "Bigfoot Screams (Longest Audio In The World)"

(A) Clipper Mills, CA (Click on Photo to Enlarge)

I've been meaning to post this for those who have not heard of it. The event was originally posted to YouTube by the man who recorded it. He's dubbed it, "Bigfoot Screams(Longest Audio In The World)." It very well may be. I'm not familiar with any other "scream" recordings this long. At the beginning of his video, it reads:
On July 8, 2012, our truck broke down while towing our boat to a nearby lake. We were forced to spend the night on the side of the road until the next day when we could deal with our transmission issues. There was no cell phone service. No where to go.

The screams began around 10:00 PM.

Below is an version posted by ParaBreakdown, with enhanced audio and a map illustrating how the events of that night unfolded.

If you'd like to see the original footage and his follow ups on the event, CLICK HERE to visit his YouTube channel.

On a related note, I viewed some footage taken on the Umatilla Reservation in Oregon, where similar screams have been stirring up that community for the past few months. I posted a story about it a few days ago. Read more by CLICKING HERE.
