I'm not sure how often the blog comments get read. There is a small link that says, "Comments" in blue, at the end of each article. Being so obsure, I'm not sure if most readers even notice it. I'm posting this comment to the main board for all to read. Jordan's in-laws gave their thoughts on the incident, and express how profound of an experience this was.

Jordan is our son-in-law. He believes in cars, tools for mechanics on big engines and water craft, and his family. Not much else catches his interest. He now packs survival gear instead of thinking it's just a long drive and he is immune to the things that happen to "everyone else". We know that he has been traumatized. We believe that he experienced something bizarre and we believe that something kept him alive and his adrenaline pumping so he did not succumb to hypothermia and die. Two hours after NHP got him on the road and heat to his vehicle he arrived home with bleeding nailbeds on his hands and feet and he still had splotchy skin from being so blue with the hypothermia. To say it has been difficult for him to believe what he saw and experienced is putting it mildly. Shame on local law enforcement, local towing, and NHP for not covering these major freeways 24 hours a day. BIGFOOT: Nevada Sasquatch Encounter Lasting Several Hours, Part 2

After receiving Jordan's report, I immediately, I emailed him some of my thoughts on his encounter that occurred January 8, 2012.

Jordan was pretty shook up, as most are after such a close encounter. I'm sure that second time when he opened his eyes, that it was like staring into the face of the boogey man. He was confused and a little freaked out. I wanted to try and put his mind at ease, and let him know that he had the rare privileged to have had an interaction with them.

I've heard reports from that area, so I wasn't surprised on hearing about his. In fact, it made me very happy. It has been an area of Nevada that I've been wanting to make some recon trips to, so this justifies my theory. While hallucinations are common with hypothermia, I think he seemed lucid enough that he was not seeing things. Especially with the palm print he found on the car. The shaking of the car is not an uncommon event, and the chattering he heard, though rare, were similar to the Ron Moorehead recordings. I'm convinced that he encountered at least one sasquatch, with a second, maybe a juvenile that kept it's distance. The chattering he heard was the two sasquatch vocalizing to each other.

My theory has been that if there is a bigfoot population in that area, which I believe there is, that they head toward the Humboldt River to hunt for deer, antelope and coyote at night, and that they possibly spend their days at higher elevations. I think they also cruise along the highway to look for roadkill for an easy meal. There has been quite a few reports of this occurring around the country. I know I've seen rabbits, snakes, fox and coyotes dead on that stretch of road, so it only make sense to me. I've also seen burros and mustangs that have also met there fate on roads across Nevada. Not to mention all the free ranging sheep and cattle in the area, that would surly make an easy meal. Jordan told me that when he was making the walk back to his vehicle, he did see a fresher blood stain on the road. Whatever it was was no longer on the road.

The mountain ranges on both sides of the Humboldt River, have many naturally occurring springs and perennial streams. Though northern Nevada is considered mostly high desert, the mountains contain stands of cottonwoods, aspens, juniper and pinion pine. I've seen wild currant bushes in these areas also. Wild mustangs, mule deer, antelope, burros, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, mountain lions, bear, bobcat, marmot, and a multitude of game birds also make their homes in these mountains and high desert.

Wildlife of Northern Nevada

These mountains hold many caves and old mine shafts for shelter. The Lovelock Caves, where the "Red Headed Giants" were killed, is only about 40 miles from the location where Jordan had his encounter. Nevada, especially this area, is one of the least densely populated areas in the U.S. Less people of course makes good wildlife habitat. Less people also means a much smaller chance for bigfoot sightings. I think this is why there are far fewer sightings reported in Nevada overall.

Ruby Mountains

Us, of the squatchier intellect know sasquatch can be curious. I think that, in some way, they/it may have known that he was in distress, and they were checking to see if he was OK. Who knows? Maybe they were trying to keep him awake because of the cold. If they wanted to harm him, they easily could have, but they didn't. What sticks in my mind is that they hung out, and kept an eye on him, basically until the NHP showed up and got the car back on the road.

I've heard squawks and whoops, and have had them near our camp at night, but never so close an encounter. There has been 3 instances when I know there were a squatch or two around me, and I know they are capable of tearing me apart, but they seem to just want to be left alone. Please know that many can be inquisitive. Others avoid humans like the plague. I know Jordan must have been a little traumatized, especially being alone, and not able to shut the window. I envy him, and feel for him at the same time. Now I'm sure he believes they are real. I let him know that many of the world's top scientists believe that sasquatch exist, so he can be assured that I don't think he was losing his mind when all this went down.

Here's part of the follow up I received from Jordan:

"I really appreciate you writing me back. I agree with all the theories. I thought about the roadkill. There actually was a big blood smear not too far from where I was that was still wet. I passed it walking back to the car. I've done so much research since this happened that I need to go further and find more physical evidence. I can agree that they seemed to be checking on me in a way. Never did anything to feel violent. It was funny how when I laid back down that the Envoy would shake. Almost as too keep me awake. I'm also certain there were 2. I heard 2 voices both in different spots too close together in timing that one couldn't have moved that fast. Also I can't believe the stealthy way of moving. I never heard a sound unless it was deliberate. I went through again 2 days ago and didn't stop but got a better view due to the fuller moon. I know the exact spot and have looked at maps and there is nothing but open area. Perfect to disappear in."

A lonely stretch of road near Crescent Valley, Nevada

I received this report a few weeks ago. I wanted some time to pass, to let this gentleman's experience, have time to settle. When someone has an encounter of this magnitude, it is a life changing experience. I know a few people who have had very close encounters, and thinking about sasquatch has literally consumed them.

I asked his permission last week if it would be alright for me to post his story here. Obviously, he gave me the OK.

Here's what Jordan wrote:

I had an experience the other night that is leaving me feeling a little crazy and confused. I however know I saw something and heard things I cant explain. After seeing markings on my SUV and reading online I have decided to share the experience with you. Maybe this will confirm my theory and help me feel like I am not insane.

Let me tell you about myself first. I'm 29 going to be 30 this month. I have 3 kids and I'm married to a wonderful down to earth woman. I'm originally from San Diego and moved to the Dayton area about 6 months ago so my wife could be closer to family and we could escape the rat race. I took a job as a mechanic for a mining company in the Elko area. I commute to Crescent Valley on my weeks on and come home on my weekends till we find a house closer to my work. Anyway I make this 4 hour drive about 6 times a month.

About 3 months ago I ran into a rash of car trouble in that area. So far I have had a tire shred on my truck that almost put me on its lid, a radiator blow apart on the same truck, a truck I borrowed lost an alternator there. Then this last time. I left Crescent Valley about 8 pm. I was talking to my wife on the phone when i ran out of gas. I usually make it to nearest gas station. I tried to get help for a few hours to no avail. Police said, "Tough." and the local tow company would tow me but not bring me a gallon of gas to get into town and people stopping to see whats going on apparently isn't allowed. They just get over and speed up.

Eventually a NHP officer pulled up and offered me a ride to the gas station, but then he had to leave while we were there so I had to walk back with my gallon of gas. Took about an hour and a half because I was cold due to not having proper attire. I put the gas in and tried to start the SUV. Now I've got a DEAD BATTERY. Again no help from law enforcement and the on-call tow operator was TOO LAZY TO GET OUT OF BED AND HELP.

Long story, ended up with my wife and myself just being hung up on. So I figured I'll have to wait till I get a friend to wake up and come help. I tried to warm up best I could. No jackets, just 2 light blankets in the car and a balaclava from work. Did I mention my drivers window was stuck down? It was now low teens as far as temp. I'm laying in the drivers seat, when I feel the car rock side to side. Nothing had driven by and there were no cars for miles. I sit up and look around. Not a damn thing anywhere. Just dark and cold as hell. I light a cigarette and look around outside. I was just out there trying to flag down cars not 20 minutes before, and I saw nothing around.

No one had driven by in a while so I laid back down. I cruised my phone for a few and felt tired. Its 2:20 am. I'LL NEVER FORGET THAT TIME. I was on my side facing the passenger side. After I focused on the window, passed the glow of my phone, I saw a face in the window. Wasn't human. Wasn't a dog. Not anything I've ever seen. I could see the glow from the phone on it. I blinked, and it was gone. Shook my head and thought I was hallucinating because I was bordering on hypothermia. About 20 minutes later I wake up not knowing I was asleep and I lying flat. Over the hood, I see a figure. Same face I saw earlier, just darker. Then it was gone.

Wow! "I'm losing it." I start thinking to myself. I feel very tired at this point, so I lay down again. Facing the drivers door I close my eyes. A few minutes later I have the feeling of a presence and open my eyes. There's a figure at the open window just inches from my face! I don't move, but look up and see it is above the car. This is a GMC Envoy SUV. I'm 6'4" and barely can see over the top. I move, and it slips back behind the door so I cant see. Holy sh*t! I wasn't hallucinating now. I saw something. I sat up and looked around. Stuck my head out the window. There was nothing there. Wow!

So I light a cigarette and sit up towards the steering wheel. Its so cold, I don't even know what to compare it to. Still no help either by the way. A few trucks go by. I try too see anything in the headlights. Nothing. Looking at the center divide which is a ditch about 20 yards across., I see a dark mass that moved a little bit. I figured it a deer, or a bush. There are no bushes here though, so it's not likely I see the only one and swear it just showed up. After seeing that I'm sitting looking out the windshield smoking and I hear a low gurgle talking sound. Never heard anything like it in my life. Almost like the predator was speaking gibberish while gargling. I look. There's nothing there, and it came from the center divide. THAT WAS NOT EVEN QUESTIONABLE AS A FIGMENT OF THE IMAGINATION. I heard it. Few seconds later I hear it again but its louder and right at the front of the car. I dip my head out the window, and look but again, nothing was there.

Somewhere, I fell asleep again and was awoken by another NHP at 6:32 am who thought I was frozen to death. He helped me get going to fuel up and get home. Everything is fine and I get home OK.

Feeling a little weird from the cold experience but I'm still kicking. Now I can't get what I saw out of my head. Can't get what I heard out of my head. I explain what happened to the wife and she seems to get it.

Then I do research, and can't find anything related to cryptozoology for that area accept one bigfoot article. It fits the description of what I saw pretty well, and I find a recorded speech pattern that I can hear what I heard on the side of the road up there. Not exact, but I can hear it.

So today, January the 8th, we go to look at the car to see if there's anything on it. We find hand prints with fingerprints in areas that match pushing the car to shake it. All around the body the dirt is swept away. Obviously from a hairy mass rubbing on the sides and rear bumper. You can see where the car was leaned on for a few while looking in the windows, and where I startled it and it backed away from the window. I can prove it too. I took pictures. The hand is much bigger than mine and new to the car but not done here because it has a layer of road dust over it from my drive home. Review this and let me know what you think. I believe what I saw and experienced, and no one will convince me otherwise. I thought you might be interested in my story.

I immediately replied to Jordan after he sent me this report. I addressed a few points regarding bigfoot habitat and sightings in this area, hypothermia, the vocalizations, and a few other points. I will follow up in a day or two on those points, as well as I will post the photos he sent of the palm and finger prints from the tailgate of his SUV.

SASQUATCH SIGHTING: Sierra Nevada Sighting Report From Mammoth Mountain, 1989

I recently received a comment related to a past article, "VIDEO: Tracking Bifoot in the Sierras."

"My best buddy and I were skiing at Mammoth mountain in 1989. When a storm blew in later in the afternoon! We rode chair 23 right before they closed the top of the mountain and took our time coming down the face in the whiteout conditions. We took the wrong way down on a run that was already closed(mid mountain) and came to a intermediate run that was vacant. We were doing about 20-30 mph when(I was first) came around a bend and to the left up on the fall line by the tree break...was something I will never forget. It was standing there on two feet with snow on it's fur..just watching us go by! When I got to the end of the run...about 1/8 mile away...I turned to ask my buddy....but before I could speak..he said"what the hell was that"? ...we saw bigfoot that day. James"

Sasquatch: Convict Lake Bigfoot Sightings?

I have noticed a couple searches on the web regarding "Convict Lake Bigfoot Sightings."

This makes me think that maybe someone has had a sighting there, and is researching what they have seen, or they've heard about someone having a sighting there.

I have been to Convict several times. The picture above is one that I took while fishing on a boat at Convict with my kids back in 2007. I've heard several reports from that area, but not at Convict itself. Convict Lake has a rather popular resort with cabins, a campground, restaurant and store, about 3 miles off highway 395. Just east of Yosemite National Park. I'd think that squatches would avoid that area in the day. At night when the guests are sleeping, I think they may venture into the area to raid numerous trash receptacles. Also there was a small heard of deer, I'd estimate at about 20, just out my cabin door one night. I also saw a lone buck on the shoreline in the daytime while we were trolling for trout from the boat, that same day I took the aforesaid picture. Long story short: It is prime sasquatch habitat.

I base the following on a wealth of personal experience in the deep wilderness, much of it rifle and bow hunting in pursuit of elusive big game. I have spent entire seasons off the grid and apart from civilization for seasons on end. BTW I make no apologies for hunting, it is an honorable pursuit and I have never taken any trophy animals that were not eaten either by my family or donated to a food bank. For the record too; I am of Algonquin descent.

The preceding post on safety afield is all good advice—but I would add the following in regards to dangers often underestimated or even made light of.

Bear safety; This subject is misrepresented by many outdoor “experts”. I frequently see comparisons made between the chances, (probabilities), of being killed by a bear and say; being killed by a bee or lightning strike. In making such statistical arguments (comparisons) the “experts” are comparing “apple and oranges” instead of making factual statistical comparisons. Every human in the U.S. is exposed to common dangers such as lightning strikes, dog attacks, motor vehicle accidents and bee stings etc. Only a tiny sampling of US residents avail themselves of the possibilities of a bear attack. The two sample groups cannot be equitably compared in the same statistical grouping since they are not evenly populating the sample studies. When accurately compared the probability of being attacked, injured, fatally injured changes dramatically. This is one of the common misunderstandings that lulls people into a set of careless behaviors in the woods.
Another common misrepresentation is the arrogant “Timothy Treadwell” attitude fostered by nationally televised “nature” specials” so popular with today’s armchair naturalist.

Timothy Treadwell (not his real name) held himself out as a protector of Katmai’s coastal brown bears, supposedly protecting the bears from “poachers”. What poacher ? Since the mid 1950’s the Katmai National Park has never had a single incident of poaching. Treadwell was but a fraud; guilty of negligent homicide, in the case of his girlfriend Amie. Treadwell and Amie were both killed and devoured by a large brown bear he had named “Satan”. But all that’s another story.
The point is bears are totally unpredictable. Their also cunning, highly intelligent, thoughtful, vicious predators capable of running in excess of 35 miles per hour.

Surprisingly more people are severely injured , killed and eaten by black bears than brown or grizzly bears. There are reasons for this and the field expedition member should understand the entire topic of bear attack before going into the woods, (especially overnight)

While the scope of this post is well beyond the brevity of what I can write here: there are ways to minimize risks inherent to sharing the woods with these magnificent creatures; such as: Each field researcher should always carry a large can of bear spray such as UDAP’s 13.4 oz. product. Practice cans with inert product are available as practice is paramount to using it effectively in an emergency. There are many other easy, cost effective precautionary measures regarding bear safety. There is a wealth of information available to anyone so interested, and good, factual information is the best defense available.

All field researchers should read Steve Herrero’s well researched book; Bear Attacks: their Causes and Avoidance. The book is still considered to be the best available text regarding the subject."

I do carry a can of Bear Spray. It is a great piece of advice that I forgot to mention.

Bigfoot Encounter: Arkansas

"i live near mulberry arkansas and a couple of years back me and my sister were at the house and we heard banging all around the house so me being curious or stupid one of the two went to the window and watched it for a while we seen something running like a man but covered in hair a brown and black colored hair we seen it run by different windows about three or four times then everything got quiet and within five minutes had something hit the front door hard enough to knock every picture off the north wall of our house ,then we started hearing banging sounds towards the south of our house they got farther and farther away until we couldnt hear them anymore , needless to say i hid behind the couch with a 20 gauge pointing at the front door waiting for watever it was to hit the door again , i told a few neighbors about it and theyve told me similiar stories just wanted to know if anyone else had any similiar stories and any possible explanations"

Sasquatch"ing" Tips: Safety First

Since writing about it in the last posting I made, I figured I'd repost these tips that I included in something I wrote a few months ago. Use common sense and be safe! Please!

Squatching Tips: Just remember, that if you do go out there, to please be respectful of the squatch and their habitat. No camp fires, unless it is survival situation! Make noise to keep the bears away. Being quiet isn't going to trick the squatch, they know you're there... trust me. Let friends or family know where you are going to be, and when you expect to return. Print them out a copy from google maps to point out the area you expect to be in, and try not to stray too far from your plans. Also make sure you practice safe outdoor survival techniques and be prepared for an emergency if it arises. Have fun and take care!

The Rise of Bigfoot, TV, And Those Who Squatch

I've been looking at the recent search engine tags that have directed people here to SierraTahoeBigfoot.com. My hits are way up, and I'm sure it has to do with the popularity of the new show, Finding Bigfoot on Animal Planet. All of us who have the bigfoot bug, squatchfluenza, love to watch any and all squatch TV. Now, I think what the show has done, is bring a lot of bigfooty people out of the closet. Last year, I wrote about the stigma that goes along with being a "believer." Funny enough, it was when I was writing about Cliff Barackman, getting robbed of first place in a contest he participated in. (click to read more) Now look at him! For the noobs to my site, Cliff's blog was the inspiration for mine. I think I wrote about it at one point, and I know I did talk about it on my interview with Nite Callers Radio.

Yada, yada, yada...My point is? There are a lot more of you squatchy people out there than I thought there was!

This brings me to my next observation. By looking at some of the other tag words bringing people to this website, it seems as though there is a boom in those wanting to start their own quest to see a sasquatch. The main reason I do it is because I want to see one for myself. I've been interested in them since I was a kid in the 70s. Since I've been actively blogging, most of the folks I've talked to, that have seen a squatch tell me, "Be careful what you wish for." One guy I know of actually had a form of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) after he had an encounter last year. It involved pine cones being thrown into camp, and then waking up to one looking down on him through the ventilation screen, in the roof of his tent. He hasn't wanted to share more than that. End of story. It wasn't a violent encounter, but sometimes we react differently than we think we will. I'm sure most of us would be a little shook up after seeing the "boogeyman" for the first time. What I'd hate is for this type of unforseen reaction, to have a bad outcome. Either someone could wind up with PTSD, or worse yet, shoot one out of fear, or have a run in with a squatch that has been hurt by humans, and then decides to protect itself.

I'm not trying to deter anyone from going out on their own little sasquatch adventure. After all, most sightings are accidental, on the squatches part. They just wander into the path of an oncoming human, and get seen. With each encounter having varying degrees of reaction. Just remember, they are a lot smarter than most people give them credit for. Those of us that beat the bushes, dawning our GPS devices and cameras, have very little success in actually seeing one. I know I've been close to them, I know they were around me, but I've yet to see one. I can tell you after what experiences I've had, no one can tell me they are not real. I know there is some other species of bipedal hominid out there.

Ok, so I'm missing being out in the Sierras pounding the pine needles, enjoying the squatch's domain, so herein lies the motivation for my little rant. I know the popularity of the subject is taking many of you out there for the first time. I just want you to think things through. Imagine different scenarios, if you were to have an encounter and what you would do. Please be safe, but please also be respectful of them. They have been here much longer than we have.

Follow-Up to Video: UFOs over Missouri

The person who posted the video on YouTube added a description of the video, and answered my question. Basically, the encounter ended pretty much in the same way as mine did. The only difference was that mine sped away in the flash of a second. He looked down, for a second, looked up, then they were gone. Still... it was cool for me to see the video. Reminded me of one of those crazy moments, I shared with my Mom.

No. This is not bigfoot, sasquatch related.

No. I am not a proponent of the squatch and UFOs being related.

I did however see these same lights as a kid, with my mom in 1977 above our neighborhood in 1977 in Barnegat, NJ. I was 11 years old at the time. When I saw this video, it really brought back some memories.

We were dogsitting for some friends, and he was sitting by the screen door, looking up at the sky growling. Me and my mom went to see what he was looking at, so we put him on a leash and walked out into the front yard. These same type of lights were making the same formation, changing positions, in the V pattern, with another light moving from one side of the formation, to the other. We watched them for about 5 minutes. Then they just all of a sudden, disappeared. They seemed to speed away and were gone in a second. The weird thing was that the dog was watching them too. Mom and I waited to see if they'd come back, but then we were both a little freaked out, and went back in the house. Total "deja vu" for me watching that video.

In this video, they just seem to move too deliberately, espcially when they make a V formation of 4 lights, then they moved and reversed the V formation. With 2 lights on the left, then moving to 2 on the right. One comment on YouTube thought they were asian candle light balloons. Possible I guess, but it was just a totally weird, kinda deja vu for me. I know what I saw back in 1977 weren't balloons, or planes, or helicopters, in the way that they sped off. There wasn't any sound. I'll try writing the poster of the video to see how these made their exit. Will write something if I hear back.

Les Stroud "Survivorman" Talks About A Bigfoot Encounter

I know many of you squatchy folks, that have watched Les get stranded in remote areas all over the planet, have wondered as I have, "Has Les ever had an encounter with squatch?" Les describes what he thinks may have been an encounter with a sasquatch while he was alone, filming an episode of Survivorman in Alaska. Does Les believe in sasquatch? Listen, and you be the judge. Hello Everyone! Man, I sure do miss squatchin! I'm here in Las Vegas for work, so I have not had a chance to get up to the Reno/Tahoe area to do any trips. since June. My kids are up there too, and I miss the heck out of them. So living and working down here in the big city is getting old for me.

We do believe that the southern end of the Sierra Range, like the Mount Charleston area, here outside Vegas, probably holds squatch, I just haven't had the time to get up there either. There were some older reports of prints found in a wash outside of Pahrump, and also more reported tracks along the Muddy River out toward Moapa/Glendale. There were archived reports of an actual sighting near the Nevada test site, off the 95, just northwest of Indian Springs. As soon as I get a chance to to make a squatchin trip, I will definately post an update here.

I just responded to a question posted at the SierraTahoeBigfoot channel on YouTube, and so I thought I'd post my response here.

Question from Uaegnome: on 3:30 to 3:40 right down in the middle was that your friend or bigfoot?

My Answer:

(Pt 1) What I'm thinking you see is a dark figure in the shadow of trees? I wish it were a squatch, but what it looks like to me is a juvenile pine tree, much of the shape of a small Christmas tree, which there are few of in the area. This is the area of our base camp. We do not usually get "activity" until dusk, and then some after sunrise.

**(What I did fail to mention was that no, it is not my friend Woodrat. He was back in base camp which was about 200 yards behind me, in relation to the area I was filming, during that segment of video in question.)

(Pt 2) We believe this is a travel corridor for them though out the day. In the day, this time of year, we think they are in the upper elevations, feeding on manzanita and currants. At night, they come down for water, and to possibly hunt mule deer that are abundant in the area.

(Pt 3) During the daylight hours, we usually spend our time hiking the upper elevations. When we're not at the upper elevations, we're looking for possible travel corridors and squatch sign. I highly recommend to any of you that are interested in bigfoot, to go out yourselves. Look at BFRO reports from your area, then look at google maps, and just look for spots you think that might be "squatchy" and just go for it! I love being out there. That's what it's all about. Thanks for the comment!

Squatching Tips: Just remember, that if you do go out there, to please be respectful of the squatch and their habitat. No camp fires, unless it is survival situation! Make noise to keep the bears away. Being quiet isn't going to trick the squatch, they know you're there... trust me. Let friends or family know where you are going to be, and when you expect to return. Print out a copy from google maps to point out the area you expect to be in, and try not to stray too far from your plans. Also make sure you practice safe outdoor survival techniques and be prepared for an emergency if it arises. Have fun and take care!

We hope to make a trip out to lower elevations, where there is little to no snow, before the thaw. Just trying to coordinate schedules, finances, etc.

Using a Katadyn Vario Water Filtration System Out In the Field

When I'm out in the field, I carry a backup water filtration system in my pack. This last trip out, in September, my squatcing buddy, Woodrat and I, ran out of water. With nightime temperatures getting down into the low 20's, we drank a lot more tea and hot chocolate than we had anticipated.

About 100 yards from our base camp, there was a little dribble of creek that forms from an upwelling out of the ground, that runs about 70 feet, and then dries up, as it seeps back into the ground. We like this spot, as we believe it to be a travel corridor that the squatch use, down this specific canyon we were researching. We had vocalizations coming down the canyon on two different occasions after nightfall.

OK, I digress, as this is a review of the Katadyn Vario, not a squatching article. I will write about my last two outings soon. It's been a while I know, but better late than never.

Attach the intake hose, to the intake port.

Insert the output hose into a clean storage container.

Set the weighted prefilter into a shallow pool, with the float adjusted for the depth, so that the weighted prefilter is not lying directly on the bottom. This is to keep less debris and silt from getting into the pump, though it can handle water of less clarity.

The Katadyn Vario is easy to use and flow rate was pretty good. Took about 5 minutes of pumping for 1 gallon of fresh, clean water. Cleaning was easy too. When you get home, just follow the simple directions, included with the unit, in it's own, zippered nylon storage bag. It fits easily in my CamelBak backpack, even with all my other squatchin gear, and my 3 liter hydration bladder, full.

Remember to practice safety first out in the field. Water is key in survival situations. Make sure that your pack is properly outfitted in the event an emergency should arise. Take care out there, and squatch safely.

Want to go on a Sasquatch Expedition?

I am writing this to see what interest there would be from the squatch readers, in using the services of a professional outdoor outfitter, to go on a guided expedition.

My friend, Woodrat, who I've gone out squatching with on 3 different occasions, is investigating the possibility of taking out small groups for expeditions, in some of his areas that he has been researching for the past few years.

For me, squatching is a hobby. I do it as a form of entertainment, and for my pure curiousity in sasquatch. Woodrat, on the otherhand, lives, eats and breathes squatch. I find this to be true of many of those who have had actual sightings. I've yet to have a sighting, but during my last 2 trips out with Woodrat, I had some great vocalizations, and wood knocks occur, both at night and in the day. I'm sure if I had the opportunity to see a squatch, my life would forever be changed too.

Woodrat's a former outfitter and hunting guide, and has years of experience in the outdoors. He is interested in turning his passion into a source of income, in these trying times. I know he will do well, as we live in the Reno/Tahoe area, and with the right advertising will draw tourists in as clients. I'm curious to see, what the readers of this blog think of using such a service?

My thought is that there are many, who want to go out and squatch, but don't feel comfortable doing it on their own. I was one. There are some that would like to go out, but don't have the equipment to deal with overnights in the squatchier areas at 5,000 to 8,000 feet in elevation. I was one too. Lastly there are those who would like some guidance as to where to go, or what to look for? There may also be a select few, who have never spent any time, out in the wilderness, and would like to learn the basics. This is the service that Woodrat would like to provide.

I will tell you this, he is passionate about being out there in the mountains. Everytime we are packing up to come home, he dreads the thought of returning to "civilization."

No, it won't be like other squatch "pay to play" expeditions. This will be limited to small groups, and all equipment, food and tent lodgings will be provided. Camp setup and breakdown will be provided also, guest participation will be optional. All one would need is a camera, backpack with hydration bladder (ie. Camelbak), and appropriate clothing. Proper outfitter licenses, permits, insurance, etc. will be gotten for expedtions in CA and NV.

Yes, I know some of you already squatch on your own, and don't need this kind of service. Some of you may think it's a great idea. Any thoughts? I've had a few enquiries, and offers to pay to go out with me, but wasn't really interested.

The sasquatch made his way around the obstacle(s) then followed along the edge of the field, close by where the trees were. Being a distance from us I wanted to get a closer view. So I drove my Bronco forward about 30 feet when I noticed the sasquatch became startled, so I stopped. The sasquatch stopped too and turned left facing us with an angry glare. After a few moments he turned and continued heading towards the road. Still, there was too much distance between the sasquatch and us and I really wanted to get closer. Trying not to scare the sasquatch, I carefully moved my Bronco ahead another 10 feet, then had to stop quickly when I saw the creature stop abruptly, turn his body, glaring at us angrier. Not wanting to cause any further problems, I shifted my transmission into neutral and applied the emergency brake. A couple moments later, the sasquatch turned and continued walking and twisting sideways repeatedly as he kept a watchful eye on us. As it was passing through the lighted area of my headlights I noticed something dangling . . . it had a penis. Soon, he crossed over the road and headed diagonally downhill. After walking several feet he stopped and looked around in the direction he was heading. Then, he turned and glared at us for a few moments, with what appeared to be an unhappy look. From there, he turned around and walked back up to the road. Standing in the center, he turned right and presented us with a glaring mad look.

At this time Michael was rambling again showing fear. I told Michael to be quiet and listen to me because I had two important questions I needed to ask him. Michael agreed to listen. I asked Michael specifically:

1. “Are you seeing exactly what I am seeing?” Michael answered firmly “YES!”
2. “Are you experiencing exactly the same thing I am experiencing?” Michael answered firmly “YES” again!

I said “GOOD, we are in agreement with each other. Remember this night and don’t forget it.” Michael agreed not to forget it.

As the sasquatch stood there I told Michael that “I wished I had a camera so that I could photograph it to show as proof of what we are seeing and experiencing right now”. Michael agreed. Observing the sasquatch, I can describe him as being very tall (8½ ’~9 ½ ’), very muscular build with broad shoulders and no neck, long black hair covered most of his body, his head was somewhat conical with black facial skin, and yes, he had a penis and testicles, all of which compose a true, genuine male specimen.

Within a few moments, the creature started walking towards us. I told Michael “Don’t to do anything to provoke him; just look at him and watch”. I thought, presumptuously, that it would pass around my Bronco and continue walking down the road behind us like any other animal would. It didn’t take long before the sasquatch had traveled some distance reaching more than half way to us. His posture was stern as he walked towards us at what seemed a normal pace. But his foot steps were spaced distantly apart allowing him to traverse distance speedily. I told
Michael: “Look at that! Look how big he is. Damn, he’s TALL!” Michael acknowledged in agreement.

The creature stopped about 40’ in front of my Bronco, and confronted us with a furious look. Right away, Michael and I sensed danger. Instead of walking around, the sasquatch deliberately marched directly towards us. I told Michael “QUICK, LOCK THE DOORS!”

Reacting immediately in rapid sequence, I pressed down on the clutch pedal, twisted around and turned my head looking out the rear, I pressed down on the accelerator revving up the engine, then, quickly released the clutch pedal making for a speedy getaway backwards. But something was wrong, I wasn’t moving . . . I forgot to shift! Quickly, I slammed down on the clutch pedal, and shifted the transmission into reverse, revved up the engine a couple more times, and quickly released the clutch again. Then, I started to panic realizing that I still wasn’t moving . . . I forgot to release the emergency brake! Nervously, I attempted to reach down for the brake-release handle when I noticed the sasquatch was already standing about 8 feet from the right front corner of my Bronco staring down at us. Both, Michael and I were horrified, too scared to move.

Then, the sasquatch moved in closer and stood next to the door. Facing towards the rear of the truck, his body bent over leaning forward. This guy was so tall, I had to twist and turn my head around clockwise, slowly, to see what he was doing. His head was positioned at the rear corner of my Bronco with his eyes peering in at us through right-side rear window where snow wasn’t sticking. Then he stood back up and turned facing the side of my Bronco. Meanwhile, Michael sat terrified and frozen to his chair.

Not knowing what was going to happen, I wasn’t going to waste a second while making a last attempt to get away quickly. I revved up my engine, hoping in part to scare the sasquatch from getting closer, and initiate a rapid escape from there.

Unexpectedly and surprisingly then, the Bronco started rocking from side to side. The sasquatch was shaking my Bronco pushing against the roof edge. The shaking intensified, then stopped. A moment passed as the sasquatch repositioned himself. Then, I heard it grunt a couple times and the shaking resumed more violently. Suddenly, I felt pain on my head. Michael’s head and my head were banging against each other and against the door windows and frames. Michael, being taller, hit his head on the inner roof edge too. I was about to get the words out but Michael was faster than me as he complained: “Stop banging my head! Stop it! It hurts!” I shouted to Michael “I’m trying not to”. Holding on, I tried to control myself on my seat. Glancing sideways, I saw the sasquatch rocking my Bronco. His hair was rubbing against the windows causing the snow to fall off. The intensified rocking caused my tires on the right side of the Bronco to clear off the ground a few times. Finally, the sasquatch let go and the tires hit the ground.

Bewildered from this experience, I was hoping that BigFoot was finished, walk away and leave us alone. But NO! He had to walk around to my side of the Bronco, clockwise, and stood next to my door. I was terrified. Then he moved back a ways and growled at us a couple of times. Its’ growl had a grumbling low resonance to it which no human could replicate audibly, it’s hard to describe. Then, it returned, grabbed my roof and growled again and my truck started rocking. Through my drivers-side door, I saw snow wiping off with its’ hair rubbing tightly against my window as the creature was shaking my truck.

In spite of fear, this wild idea flashed through my mind: What if . . . I quickly roll down my window and pluck off a few hairs, and then quickly roll the window back up? The sasquatch was right there, closer than an arm’s length. I had the window of opportunity but with only a few moments to carry this out.

Carefully, I weighed out the pros and cons:

PROS
1: I would have obtained real sasquatch hair samples!

CONS
1: Possible retaliation – Undoubtedly, it could roll my truck over
2: We could be killed
3: If we survived, it would be one hell of a long walk back to the nearest paved road.
4: It was freezing outside with lots of snow on the ground
5: There were doubts that Michael and I would have been able to roll my truck upright and questionable if drivable.

The risks were high, so I decided ‘not to’ do it; which probably was the best choice. But still, I think the idea holds some merit of value.

As the Bronco rocked more violently, Michael’s head and mine were banging against each other again. My left hand was grasping firmly onto the steering wheel and my right hand was grasping tightly on the floor shifter knob; I had minimal control. When the opportunity prevailed, I released my hand from the steering wheel and grasped the first solid thing to my left side, the door rest. A few moments later I quickly let go of the floor-shifter knob, reached below the seat and grasped firmly on the lower edge. Finally, I gained control of myself. Michael’s hands were already grasping firmly on the lower edges of his seat. I told Michael “HANG ON TIGHT, LET’S RIDE THIS OUT!” (This presented a whole new concept to the term ‘BUCKING BRONCO’.) Having regained physical control, we were able to prevent our heads from further banging. The creature shook the truck a few more times and then let go and the tires slammed back onto the ground again.

The sasquatch moved away, about 40 feet, from the side of my truck into the field. It turned around and looked at us. As it paused for a few seconds, I heard it growl a couple more times. Then it turned and started walking through the field, parallel to the road. Michael and I thought the creature was finally going to leave. Michael expressed a couple profanities to it and I started contributing too. Apparently, the sasquatch heard us because it slowed down and twisted around to look at us. We quickly shut up, afraid that we might stir up a problem.

After traversing about 100 feet, it stopped, looked around, then turned facing us. He watched us for a few moments, then he started backtracking to a little ways further back from where he was standing. From that point he watched us as if waiting for us to emerge from the vehicle or make some kind of move. But no way, we were chicken! Michael and I tried to watch it too, but that area was dark, and it was difficult to see him. We wondered what it might do next.

Several seconds had already passed when the sasquatch started to approach my Bronco again, heading towards my door. From there, it turned and walked around, counter-clockwise, to the passenger side. Michael was frightened and held still. Then, the sasquatch reached over grasping both side edges of my roof and started rocking my truck again. The tires were clearing off the ground again. In a moment, the sasquatch grunted and heaved. All of a sudden my body was pressed against the door and then something heavy fell on me. I tried to push myself upward but couldn’t. Then, I looked over and saw this hand pressing hard against my right upper arm and shoulder. I followed the arm looking for its owner. Surprisingly, it turned out to be Michael’s. All the while, my Bronco was being held up, tilted and balanced on the two left wheels. Once, it felt like the truck was going to roll over, but the sasquatch held on and pulled it back. I was surprised of this and couldn’t understand why the sasquatch didn’t push my truck all the way over. Our destiny was in its hands. Then, I begged him “Michael, let go of me you’re too heavy!” Michael said “I can’t!” I told Michael again “Get off of me, I can’t get up!” Michael exclaimed “I can’t, I’m falling . . . I can’t hold myself up!” Then I realized the only thing holding him there was his seat belt. Within seconds, the sasquatch dropped the Bronco sending the tires slamming back onto the ground. As Michael and I tried to regain our senses, the sasquatch started walking slowly away. Passing around the right-front corner of my Bronco, it walked left diagonally crossing over the road. All the while it kept twisting its body keeping a watchful eye on us. Then, it walked down the hill around some trees, counter-clockwise, and disappeared.

We knew it was time to get the hell out of there. After waiting several moments, making sure that the sasquatch was gone, I tried to start the engine. But it wouldn’t start. The carburetor must have flooded. Anxious to get away, I had to wait for a bit. Looking through the windows, I saw numerous foot prints embedded in the snow. They were all around my Bronco, on the road and in the field everywhere. The size of each foot print was enormously large.

I cranked the starter a few times and soon the engine restarted. Not wanting to make any mistake, I carefully shifted into gear and drove backwards following the path I had already made in the snow. I continued in reverse until I found a safe area where I could turn around without getting stuck. Worried that the sasquatch could appear again from around the trees, I did not want to have another encounter with it. After we turned around, I sped back for a good two or three miles before I slowed down. We eventually got back onto the paved road and returned back to Amy’s house.

Upon returning I wondered how I was going to tell Amy about our encounter. I walked inside and I heard Amy calling from the other room “Are you guys back already?” I answered “Yes we are.” Then she asked if we had any problems on our trip. I said “Yes, we did.” Amy approached me asking “What happened?” I told her we seen a sasquatch. Before I was able to go into details, Michael hollered to Amy as he stormed through the door “We saw a sasquatch, we saw a sasquatch, and it almost rolled us over!” Amy was startled and rushed over back to me asking if it was true. I said “YES! We did see a sasquatch and we were attacked; it nearly rolled my Bronco over!” We talked about the encounter for a while and Amy suggested that I should report it to the authorities. But I didn’t want to go that far and because people might ridicule me about it. Amy opposed and continued to urge me to report it.

In conclusion, I never did report it to the authorities and left it as that . . . until now. I believe the sasquatch assumed that I was stalking it, giving a probable reason for attacking. I’m looking for comments on this.

SASQUATCH SIGHTINGS: A Second Close Encounter in the Sierras-Part 1

John has completed his written description of his second encounter. He's been working on it in his spare time, so this is why it's taken longer than he would have liked. After you read it, I'm sure you will appreciate the attention to detail in which he describes his encounter. I will break it up into 2 or 3 parts, as his write up came in 4 pages of single spaced, size 10 Arial font, and very narrow margins. He apologized to me for the length of his story, but I don't think it would do any justice to shorten his account.

I had the opportunity to meet with John on two occasions, and spent several hours with him, discussing his encounters, going over Google maps and generally talking squatch. I find John to be a very sincere person, and he has a childlike enthusiasm that is contagious, as he talks about his encounters. I heard this account during our first phone conversation, and then again, over dinner. John's enormous amount of vivid detail, did not waiver. His story was always consistent, and I found no discrepancies in his telling and retelling of this encounter.

Some of you will balk at this encounter, I'm sure. After all, it is part of the squatch game, to have the doubters. I will tell you, for what it's worth, after sitting with John, I believe him. I will be spending more time with John, and we will go out squatching together in the spring. John will appreciate constructive comments. I will not publish any comments that ridicule or berate John. This site is for those who want to read it. I will not get involved in bashing anyone.

Sorry for the rant. I recieved a couple nasty comments directed at me, which is no big deal. I just don't want to be sucked into any drama. I don't need it. Hope you understand my point.

As for me and my last couple of trips, I apologize for not getting anything posted. Woodrat and I spent 4 days up in a place, I will refer to as, "The Meadow." I took a photo of what I like to call, "My first blobsquatch." This was in the first hours of setting up camp. Then nothing eventful happened until we were cleaning up camp, and had some great vocalizations, on three sides of us, that last day. I've just not had a lot of computer time to get caught up on the blog. I'll catch up as soon as I'm able. I have a few pictures to post, along with some video.

On December 25, 1990 I was in Quincy, California visiting a girl friend. As evening approached I found myself restless and felt like going out for some fun. I asked Amy if she’d like to go out four-wheeling with me. She said she’d like to but stated that she should stay home and take care of her kids. And she also wanted a little time to assemble a toy for her oldest son. Her adopted brother, Michael, over heard the conversation then jumped in saying that he’d like to go four-wheeling with me. As much as I wanted to spend some time with Amy, I gave in to take Michael instead. So we gathered our coats and headed out.

It was snowing outside with about 3” inches of snow on the ground. As we buckled down in my orange 1973 Ford Bronco Michael asked where we were going. I said “I don’t know but I’m sure we could find a place to go”. Michael said he knew of a dirt road near the area of the Quincy dump and suggested we go there. So I said “OK”.

When we were near Michael pointed where to turn off. We stopped and jumped out to lock my hubs. From there we took off on the dirt road.

At this time it was snowing heavier with an accumulation of about 4” on the ground. Being in no rush I drove at a comfortable speed accordingly to the terrain. Having no idea where it leads to, we just followed the road and enjoyed the drive. A short time later, the snow reduced to light flakes falling. The headlights on my Bronco reflecting off the snow enhanced the luminescence all around. Soon, it stopped snowing and the clouds broke open allowing stars to shine brightly, enabling us to see a greater distance clearly. It was so beautiful and peaceful out there.

After driving some distance I looked at my odometer and mentioned that we had already traveled a few miles. We contemplated about turning around and start heading back, but, being indecisive we continued to travel further. It was snowing again when I noticed an open field, a distance ahead, coming into view. The road curved to the left, following lengthwise of the field. Trees and bushes were scattered in between, separating the road from the field. We found a small area, clear of trees and brush, and stopped momentarily to gaze through into the field. Its appearance resembled a half-circular corral with a bottle-neck shaped field, merging into a wider field extending outward lengthwise. Then, something at a distance caught my eye. I pointed my finger and told Michael “Look, there’s something moving out there in that field. It came out from the area where the trees are denser on the other side. Can you see it?” Michael said “Yeah, I see it.” I mentioned to him that it’s probably a bear. Michael wasn’t too sure. We watched it walking through the snow outwards, lengthwise through the field.

After passing, parallel to, the narrow section of the bottle-neck shape field, the road turned right leading us across the field from the left side to the right side. Another dirt road soon appeared on my left hand side a short distance away running parallel with the one I was on. Strange as it was, I wondered what purpose the other road was there for. Before we reached the other side, we saw the creature, on our left side, in the field. After we crossed, the road turned left and led us around a couple of boulders, several trees, and another boulder. Then, the road turned left again, crossing over the field, back to the other side. The mystery ended when I found myself on that road. Looking across the terrain, I noticed the field was curved angular and extended outward lengthwise. Dense clouds and some fog obscured visibility towards the far end of the field. I couldn’t see the trees. Looking to our right, we found ourselves closer to the creature and discovered that it was walking upright. It twisted around and glanced back at us about three times as it continued walking lengthwise through the field. We assumed it must be someone hiking out there. But something didn’t look right. We weren’t sure if the hiker was wearing a back pack, nor did we see any evidence of flashlight use. It was difficult to see him clearly because he was leaning forward and it was snowing.

After reaching back to the left side of the field, the road sloped downward, squirreled around turning towards the right. Trees and brush were scattered about on the right-hand side separating us from the field again. We continued our journey forward. Looking further ahead, I saw the road leading into a right turn. We followed the road around and shortly the field appeared ahead of us. The trees and bushes, on the right-hand side of the road were spacing further apart as we were passing by. As I drove slower, we spotted the hiker a distance away. Michael and I watched as the hiker was getting closer. Then, I stopped momentarily.

An existing fence stood in the field a distance away positioned parallel to the road. The length of it didn’t span completely across, but, openings at each end provided room to pass through. Apparently, the field was part of the half-corral we passed earlier.

It was still snowing when the hiker reached the end of the fence. As I watched him, thoughts were running through my mind. Being miles away from civilization, the hiker must surely be cold and may be lost. And, perhaps, he might appreciate the courtesy of us stopping there to offer him a ride back into town in the comfort of a warm vehicle. But there was something that just didn’t look right and I couldn’t figure it out. The hiker stood near the end of the fence and looked at us for a few moments and contemplated which direction to go. It appeared that he was aiming to cross the road and, also, trying to avoid getting near us. I couldn’t understand why the hiker would want to act that way. Then, he turned to his left, and started walking along the inside of the fence. About half way across he stopped, turned around and returned back where he started. The hiker looked at us again, then proceeded around and walked along the outside of the fence. After he reached the other end he looked over and glanced at us, then looked around. Not knowing which way to go, he turned around and headed back to the other end again, glancing over at us a couple more times along the way. In a small area, he paced a few steps to and fro, and looked around. Then, he moved on.

By his motions, it appeared that he wanted to pass through the center of the field to cross over the road. But observing our presence on the road, he kept towards the other side. Soon, he noticed an obstacle on the ground, probably a large boulder and/or large brush, and he knew he was going to have to get around it somehow. Not seeing an alternative, he decided to pass around it clockwise. The falling snow decreased rapidly then. The hiker turned facing towards us, raised his head looking right at us as he moved forward a few steps. Just then, we were able to ascertain the true identity of the hiker. We had a clear view of him.

Suddenly, our jaws dropped and eyes stretched widely open as we couldn’t believe what we were seeing. Leaning forward in our seats we stared intensely on the hiker. That’s when we realized it was not human. Astonishingly and excitedly, we hollered to each other: “WOW, LOOK AT THAT . . . IT’S A SASQUATCH! LOOK AT THAT! IT’S A REAL SASQUATCH!” We were ecstatic.

Sasquatch Sightings: Bigfoot Encounters in the Sierras

I was recently contacted, by a name named John. He wrote that he had had 4 bigfoot encounters, over a span of about the last 22 years. I had a chance to talk to him by phone, and I found him to be very enthusiastic to talk to someone who would listen, and not judge. He began to tell me about his experiences, with great detail and enthusiasm. The emotions I heard in his voice, told me that this guy seems like the real deal.

He told me how he's been wanting to describe his experiences, and get some opinions on what he'd seen. John has begun to put his story to paper. Or, should i say hard drive? He's just eager to get his story out. I think, like many witnesses, that John just wanted to get it off his chest, and hoped someone wouldn't think him crazy. I'm going to put John's story up on this forum. I will be meeting with him personally, very soon.

Here's John's first encounter, as he wrote it:

REAL SASQUATCH ENCOUNTERS

First Encounter

My name is John and I have lived in Reno for a number of years. Four-wheeling, camping, visiting ghost towns, hiking and exploring are some of the activities I enjoy. While preoccupied in past outdoor adventures, thinking or having anything to do with Sasquatches was the farthest thing from my mind. However, over the course of several years I have had unexpected encounters with Sasquatches in California and Nevada. Interestingly, though, there have been numerous occasions of tell-tale signs indicating unusual activities that occurred near or around the vicinity of where I was but I wasn’t able to identify the source. Eventually I learned those activities were signs suggesting evidence of Sasquatches. I personally have seen four real live Sasquatches, each at different locations and times. Two of those experiences were extremely close encounters and frightening. In brief, apart from visually seeing these creatures, I have heard their whoop-howls, grunts and growls; and wood knocking. I have also experienced stones, sticks, pine cones, and other debris tossed at me; and smelled the foul stench . . . whew! I’ve seen numerous Sasquatch footprints including those freshly made. And, I have been attacked. On some of those occasions other people were with me.

Having come to realize the number of encounters and experiences I’ve had prompted me to write. I told some of my friends and a few others about some of my experiences but have never blogged or revealed my encounters publicly over the Internet. I am particular whom I share my information with. In respect for life these are living creatures and they have a right to live. This is my letter consisting the first, of four encounters.

First Encounter:

For several years I have explored many wilderness areas, dirt roads, and ghost towns. One place I enjoy camping, in particular, is in an area in Mono County, California. I have camped there several times by myself and other times friends have joined me. During Spring time water flows through the creek down the valley. Cows graze in the meadows in the lower part of the valley and on the other side of the hill nearby. The area is generally peaceful with the exception of noisy woodpeckers. They start peckin’ away on the trees very early. And that irritates me to be awakened that early, before dawn, when I’m camping out.

In 1984, two friends of mine and I traveled there to camp out for the Memorial holiday weekend. Prior to entering Bridgeport, I stopped at the Ranger Station to get a permit for a camp fire. After we arrived to our destination I set my tent up on top of a relatively flat area of an old mine-tailing next to a hill. My campsite is in a valley, a wilderness area of which I have frequently camped at. It is not a typical public camping area. During our last evening there we sat around the camp fire and talked. Later, after tiring out, we crawled into our sleeping bags and fell asleep. Outside there was a slight breeze as the camp fire continued to burn. It was a quiet evening with crickets chirping and frogs croaking.

Later that night the three of us were awakened by the sound of heavy foot steps and branches breaking as something evidently was coming down from the side of the steep hill behind the tent. Dense trees on that side of the hill would have made passing through difficult. On the left side of the hill (viewing from the road), where the trees thinned out, a narrow trail existed leading through it over the hill.

As the footsteps drew closer the three of us started whispering, checking on each other: “Hey . . . are you awake? I hear something out there! Something is coming towards us! Can you hear foot steps? What is it?” One suggested that it could be a bear because the footsteps sounded heavy. I remarked: “If it is a bear it would most likely be walking on four feet. The footsteps I hear sounds consistent as something walking on two feet. Can you hear that?” The others listened closely and said: “Yeah, you’re right, John, it does sound like it’s walking on two feet”. Then I said “listen close and tell me if you hear it lower and walk on all fours.” We listened again and, once more, we agreed. Then, it became quiet.

Seconds later we heard the footsteps walk to the back side of the tent and stopped. Needless to say, we were nervous. The creature started poking against the material wall of the tent and then pressed its’ paw against it feeling around. We heard it breathing a little harder as it labored feeling around as if searching for an opening. Even, though, it was dark inside the tent we were able to visually make out the impressions of the tent wall pressing inward. Twice, the creature pressed against the tent so hard that we thought the tent was going to collapse. Quickly, we rolled away while we were still inside our sleeping bags. We were scared and didn’t know what was going to happen. Fortunately, the tent remained upright.

The creature grunted and growled a couple times when it heard us inside the tent. The growl was definitely animal like, not human. The grunt and growl didn’t fit the sound of a bear. Then the creature backed off and walked to the side of the tent. It reached over poked and felt the side wall but couldn’t find an opening there either. So it walked around to the front side of the tent and moved towards the flap-door. I was able to see its’ paws pressing on the material again feeling around then tracing the door’s edge up and down. Then, surprisingly, it grasped the bottom edge of the tent below the door and pulled it upward a bit while its’ other paw felt around. The door zipper was right there. One would think, if it was human, it would have grabbed the zipper and unzipped it upward. Unable to enter, the creature let go of the bottom edge of the tent, backed off and moved away. It sounded like it was heading toward one vehicle parked approximately forty feet from the front of the tent. Then the creature stopped. We whispered to each other, in question, wondering what the creatures’ intentions might be.

Several seconds later we heard the creature move again. It sounded like it was walking diagonally from the area of the vehicle towards the other corner of the tent. Then, amazingly, a silhouette of the creature appeared through the material wall of the tent as it was passing between the camp fire and the tent. Quickly, I told the guys “LOOK! There’s a silhouette of the creature on the wall”. One of the guys had a good view of it as I did, but my other friend was only able to capture a few glimpses of it. For a few seconds, the silhouette displayed a body from the knees up with two arms swaying back and forth, and it was walking upright. Its’ head was somewhat conical shaped. Without a doubt, the image resembled a Sasquatch (we called it ‘Big Foot’ then). The silhouette faded after it passed around the corner of the tent followed by the fading sound of its foot steps as it headed back up the hill.

The direction of the creature moving around the tent was clockwise. Not knowing what its’ intentions were, it may have been curious as a reason for checking out our camp site. But, what if it did manage to open the tent? What would have happened then? It’s spooky thinking about it! After the creature left we were still scared. None of us wanted to peek outside till morning. As tired as we were we tried to go back to sleep but it was difficult.

Upon awakening we got dressed and went outside for a look. Feeling groggy and tired, we walked all around the tent looking for clues of the creature. Shallow footprints were found behind the tent but they were difficult to identify because the ground was hard there. Searching on we followed through a path, where the creature had presumably passed through, a short distance away from the tent. We found five large foot prints there trailing into the mud, but they were only partial impressions. Only two of those foot prints retained all the toe impressions remarkably well; each had five toes flanked straight across. Compared to those foot prints our feet were very small even with shoes on. I told my friends that “this would have been a great time to have had a camera so that we could have photographed the foot prints”. With excitement the guys agreed loudly “YEAH, we should have brought a camera!” We tried to come up with other ideas for recording but couldn’t. Sadly, we knew we’d have to leave without being able to take some kind of evidence with us proving what we saw. Shortly afterwards we decided to quit our search and started packing. We had other plans for the day and later that after noon we’d have to start heading back to Reno.

Sasquatch: Squatchin with Woodrat

Well, it had definitely been a while. I haven't been out squatching since May. With the advent of the passing of my dad, then some personal , and financial setbacks, I just haven't had the opportunity to get back out there. The economy has been tough on a lot of us. This being said, I have now have plenty of time to squatch, but the costs of even taking day trips, is hard for me to justify at this time.

A couple of months ago, I was introduced to a squatcher, who goes by the name, “Woodrat.” I was contacted by Larry, from SierraSquatch.com, who told me about Woodrat's, multiple encounters with squatches, in the northeastern Sierras. Larry thought I might be interested in comparing notes with Woodrat, as we both live in Reno, and are exploring the same general area.

Honestly, I was hesitant at first. It's not that I was leery of sharing my info with him, but I am rather set in my ideas of how I like to act, and what methods I employ while in the field. My approach is to just be normal as possible. I'm just some dude, walking through the woods. I don't try sneaking around. I'm not covered in camo thinking I'm going to outwit any bigfoot into revealing themselves to me. I believe that when I'm out there, that if I get the opportunity to see one, it will be on their terms, not mine. For me, it's pinpointing an area that I suspect maybe a travel corridor for sasquatches, and simply hiking the area, while keeping my awareness sharp, and my head on a swivel, watching for possible signs and/or tracks. Then I hope our paths cross, with a safe, harmonious, outcome. Almost all sightings are accidental, on both the humans', and the sasquatches' part. Correct?

A couple weeks after Larry contacted me, I finally gave Woodrat a call. We spoke for a good hour or more. I listened intently as he recounted his various encounters he's had, in the general vicinity that I had been working. We actually hit it off rather well. Both of us like to fish and squatch, so it's hard not to get along. Woodrat is one of those guys, unlike myself, with the “grande marbles,” who ventures out alone. As I've stated before, I'm a big chicken, so I never squatch solo. During a family camping trip in 2008, a female squatch walked through their camp, at dusk, while Woodrat's wife and baby girl were there alone, as he was out doing a little recon. The wife's brief encounter scared the heck out of her. Now she won't go camping anymore, and no longer wants Woodrat to go out alone either. So, now she's much happier that Woodrat has someone to squatch with. My squatch partner, my nephew Hank, has recently moved up to Salem, OR. So, I'm glad too, now that I have someone to baby sit me while I'm bounding around the beautiful Sierras.

Saturday, July 24, 2010, Woodrat and I ventured out to the area of the northeastern Sierras where he's had his encounters, His area of concentration was just 20 miles from where I had been exploring. Neither of us like to go out on weekends, due to all the possible human traffic, but it was the only day that worked for us, so we went. It had been over 2 months since I was last out in the mountains. I had bad case of testosterone overload, amping up my anticipation for this trip. Saturday or not, any day I get to squatch, is a good day.

At first, we drove through very active recreation areas and full campgrounds. I thought to myself, “Uh-oh.” Then Woodrat veered off the highway, on to a forest road, then a logging road, then another, and another. Before I knew it, we were deep in the forest, at about 7000 feet in elevation. The road, was narrow and dusty and looked like it hadn't been traveled on for some time. Most of the forest was dark and thick, so finding corridors of possible movement was going to be more obvious, and easier to find.

After about 30 minutes of driving down this old dusty road, we turned into a smaller road, about 7 feet wide, overgrown with brush on each side. The screeching sounds of branches rubbing against the paint of his truck, reminded me of nails on a chalkboard. After a couple hundred yards, it began to open up, and then the forest gave way to a meadow. I thought to myself, “This is feeling rather squatchy.”

It feeling squatchy is a good thing. It has been a few months since I'd been up in the deep Sierras, so now I'm dying to get out of the truck.

Woodrat said not to bother putting my 35 pound pack on. We were only going to do a quick recon of the area for squatch signs.

SASQUATCH SEARCHER

I just wanted to make you aware of my friends website, Sasquatch Searcher. A link has been added to the right side of the his page. He is my new squatching bud, Woodrat, who took me up to his area of concentration for a day trip and then a follow-up 2 night trip. Today, Linda has posted on her blog, Bigfoot Ballyhoo, that Bill Emery and his team, took 4 photos of the Sru Lake (Squaw Lake) Sasquatch, this morning. For those of you not familiar with the Sru Lake Bigfoot. Got to the search tab on the right side of this page to search this blog. Enter "Squaw Lake" for the first posts. Then enter "Sru Lake" for the most recent posts, because the name of the Lake has recently been changed to "Sru."

For even more info, do the same searches at Bigfoot Ballyhoo. Read posts from the past couple of weeks on Bigfoot Ballyhoo, and you can see read the updates from Mr. Emery and his team since they've been up there. They have had some close encounters, some very aggressive on the squatch's part. Breaking a window on Bill's trailer, and hitting the party with thrown rocks and tree limbs.

There's been a lot of politics involved with the US Forest Service and also in the Bigfoot community regarding this search, and the activity up at Sru. I've been following Mr. Emery's work for some time, and find him to be a very credible man. unfortunately, there are so called "Bigfoot Researchers" out there that want to try and discredit other peoples success. I will clarify that I do not proclaim to be a Bigfoot Researcher..... I am a Bigfoot Hobbyist. My Econ/Finance background gives me no credible training to consider myself otherwise.

I wish Bill Emery and his team continued success, and hope they can meet their objective of protecting the grumpy old squatch that has been causing all the mischief up there. Sru Lake is it's home, not ours, and we need to respect it's space. I'm sure it will be a while before the photos are released, and I wholeheartedly agree with Bill's decision to anticipate all ramifications these photos would have, especially to this particular bigfoot itself. I hope when Bill's done, they close off the area. People just need to leave it be.

This past week, I was invited to go scout some areas in the Northeastern Sierras, with my new friend, Woodrat, as he goes by in the squatch world. We then found what we thought was a good area to set up camp and spent this past Sunday and Monday night up there, near 7000 feet in elevation. Here are a few pics. Mr. Mike claims to have a family of 5 sasquatch, visiting his backyard in the evenings, for the past 3 weeks. The interview was done on July 3, 2010.

Remembering One of the Great Ones

Yes, I've been a little out of the "Squatch Loop" for a few weeks.

We found out recently, the beginning of April, that my dad had a large mass in his left lung and it has also spread to his bones throughout his body. He's been in hospice care since, here at home, with me, my brother, and my nephew Henry. He lived through all of WWII serving in the Pacific, after joining the US Navy at the age of 17, the day after Pearl Harbor was attacked. Born and raised in Oklahoma City, he'd never seen the ocean, and always wanted to. He spent most of his time on a Fletcher class destroyer, Stephen Potter (DD-538), and the aircraft carrier, Hancock (CV 19). After the war, he was stationed at Pearl Harbor.

Dad, when we lived in Iran 1976

My mom, Nancy, was born on the island of Kauai, to Korean immigrants. During the war, she was a singer for the USO. Mom met Dad, when she noticed him, sloshed off his butt, while his buddies took advantage of him and his wallet. She watched from the stage, in the nightclub she was singing at, as my Dad's buddies made him buy all the drinks. When her set was over, she went down to my dad's table and told the other guys to get lost, and she ordered Dad some coffee. They married 3 weeks later, just before Dad had to ship out. He worked 14 hour days since then, in places like Iran, Mexico and Saudi Arabia, until he retired in 1989. He smoked 2-3 packs a day for 70 years, had 5 sons, and survived 62 years of marriage to Mom, who is now in an Alzheimer's care facility. God bless her....

When we told Dad the diagnosis, he looked at the doctor, and with a smile he said, "I've lived a good life."

Everywhere we've lived, they loved our Dad.

Dad passed away, this past May 28th, at about 6:30, here at home. It also happened to be my mom and his 63rd Anniversary. I'm sure he held out so he could make it 63 years. If you knew him, you'd probably think that too.

I think I was in denial because it was happening so quick. My friend Jaime Avalos, was in town... offered to stop by, and I thought it would be alright to step out for a bit. I whispered in Dad's ear that I was stepping out, but that I'd be right back. I told him my brothers, Jim and Homer, were going to be on there way up from Vegas, if he wanted to wait, but if he wanted to go, that we'd be alright, and that we'd watch over mom so he didn't need to worry. I gave him a kiss, and said, "I love you, you old fart."

My brother Bob was by his side when he expired shortly thereafter. Again, it is so "Dad" to wait for his baby boy to leave, and to have his eldest son by his side in the end. I'm sure he wanted to shelter me from it. The funny thing too, is that Bob tried to call my cell several times, to let me know, but it never showed on my call list. My phone never rang. Bob tried calling Jaime's phone, but Jaime left it on the charger in the truck, as we grabbed a bite to eat. I'm sure Dad wanted it to work out that way, so I've got no regrets.

Dad will get full military honors, when we have a joint memorial with Mom, back in Hawaii. They will look down on Diamondhead, where they met back in May of 1947. They will be laid to rest, together, at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl. While Mom is still with us, Dad's ashes will hang out here with us. We know he wouldn't want to return home, to Hawaii, without Mom.

I know this isn't squatch related, but I wanted to let you all know where I've been, and that I've still got squatchin on my mind. I'll get back the mountains soon.

I thought it appropriate, to pay homage to a great man. I will always be proud of him. He's a prime example of why we call them "The Greatest Generation."

Trip Into the Sierras: Living and Learning in the Matters of Squatching

The trip we made out into the northeastern Sierras, on Friday, proved to be a interesting day, even though we got a late start.

These flowers were starting to bloom, all over the open areas at the start of our hike.
About 15 minutes into our hike, we found a mountain lion track. On our last trip out, we found what I though was a mountain lion track, but after careful research of the photos I took, it was clear that it was some sort of canine print. This time, after knowing that cougar prints are wider rather than longer, and comparing the picture below to other prints online, it is pretty clear to me that this belongs to a mountain lion. I was pretty excited to start out the day with finding a trackway from another elusive denizen of the sierras.

The print, by my best guess, appears to be from the day before, as this area received rain and freezing snow the previous 2 days. As you can see the print is a little eroded, and unfortunately, the angle I took the picture from, didn't capture as much detail as I thought it would. But you can clearly see the pad, and the 4 toes, with a lack of claw marks. A canine or bear print would have left claw/nail marks. The print measures about 4 1/4" across. For reference, my knife measures 4 5/8" in length. CLICK HERE to see a nice comparison of large feline tracks, to canine.

Continuing up the trail another 15 to 20 minutes, we found a suspicious print (see below), that measured 13" by 5.5". The print itself looks as though it might have been made where there may have been small puddle, as it looks like the print was made in washed out mud, and then the water seeped into the ground and/or evaporated, washing the print out. What kept my attention was the area at the front that appears to be toes. I'm confident it is a print and not just erosion, due to the fact that the mud is freshly pushed up on one side.

While I was examining the first print, Henry found a trackway leading away from the fire road we were on, up toward higher ground. There he found a print on the side of a stream bank, about 30-40 feet away from the aforementioned print. I first filmed the video of it, and then took a still photo of the print.

It had what appears to be a defined toe line, and you could see a mark on the left side of the print which looks like the foot slipped downhill a bit and the heel rotated to the right. You can see the mud pushed up around the right side of the heel area. I wish I would have spent more time examining this print. I don't know why I didn't. We had such a late start on the day that I just wanted to get up to my target destination. After looking at the photo, I am very excited by it. It looked to be about the same dimensions of the first print. The cut mark left on the left side of this second print, looks like it was made by a bare foot and not a boot. There would be streaks left by the treads on a shoe or boot and the edge of the shoe or boot sole would leave a definite angular cut. This mark was rounded as if the outside of a barefoot had slipped down the muddy slope. This print also looks very fresh, as if it had been made after the rain and snow stopped falling, the night before. The debris that is in the print, rocks, clumps of mud, etc. was either made by the subject in question, or by Henry stepping on the soft ground above the print, causing the debris to roll down into the print. This was our first possible sasquatch print find, and we handled it like the amateurs that we are. I can chalk this one up to "living and learning in the matters of squatching."

Feel free to right click on the photo, and copy it so you can look at it in Windows Photo Gallery, or similar program so you have the ability to zoom in and look at the details. The more I look at it, the more I want to kick myself for not spending more time examining it.

....It looks squatchy to me.

After spending only about 10 minutes in the area of the tracks, we moved onward back up the mountain. Halfway through the day, we did hear a thumping sound, but it was coming from the lower elevations, down toward the lake. I figured it was probably human in origin. It sounded like a hollow thud, with a very low tone. It happened in steady 3 and 4 beats at a time, with a minute or two between hearing them again. It carried on 5 or six times. At one point, I think the third time we heard it, they seemed much closer. Then they got farther away as we climbed higher.

Here's some of the scenery from our trip up.

After trudging up the mountain 3 miles or so, and gaining 1500 feet in elevation, we came to the snow line at about 6600 feet. It was 2-3 feet deep, and sloppy. With the day waning, we decided to head back down the mountain.

It turned out to be a good day. Any day we get to spend out there, is a good day.

Nite Callers Radio

"Returned to an area that we visited last month when there was a break in the extended winter weather we've been having. This area received freezing rain and snow the previous 2 days, but today was 20 degrees warmer and sunny. I wanted to take advantage of the soft ground to look for prints. We did find a couple interesting prints, in a trackway we were able to follow for about 30 yards before the ground conditions changed into the harder, pine needle covered stuff. After making our way about 3 miles, and a gain of about 1500 feet in elevation, we ran into deep wet snow at about 6600ft. Unable to stay out for nightfall, we had to make our way back down the mountain, to the car. We came to within a quarter mile of my target destination, a small meadow area with two small seasonal ponds, with a steep ridgeline to the east. Looks very squatchy to me. I've been studying this area on Google Earth all winter, so I'll be back as soon as I can free up the time."

When I'm Not Squatching.......

Over the past couple months, I've had a few inquiries from readers, as to what my actual profession is.

Well, I am self employed. For many of us, the economy has hit us all hard. My main source of income over the past few years has been currency trading in the Forex market. For those of you who were interested, you can see some of what I do on my Forex blog, FXTradePros.com. On my Forex blog, I like helping new traders in learning the basics of Forex trading, and also learn my style of trading. Yesterday, I posted a potential trade to watch for. Now, I've just finished uploading a video review of how the trade worked out.(See Video Below) Boring stuff for the squatch crowd, but I have fun with it. Actually, it is my Forex blog, that enabled me to begin blogging on sasquatch.

If you must know.... Yes, this is posed, not candid, of me and my two screens I use for trading. Now I use it more for squatching. Researching on one screen, and scouting GoogleEarth on the other.

Other projects I'm involved in, is consulting on "small scale" merger and acquisitions. Assist companies in going public, to raise funds for their businesses. I also have a group of investment bankers I work with, who can raise working capital for smaller publicly traded companies. As you can imagine, the banking and economic crisis has really slowed things down to a crawl, so it gives me time to pursue my squatchy aspirations.

Sometime last summer, I was surfing the net for squatch stuff, and I came across Cliff Barackman's blog. His setup reminded me of my Forex blog. I spent a few hours reading Cliff's blog, and thinking how cool this guy was! I like to fish, scuba dive, golf, but it was reading Cliff's stuff, that made me aware that maybe I can get involved in squatching somehow too. I then thought... "Hmmmmm, maybe I can start blogging on bigfoot, in and around where I live." My first intention was to only blog about bigfoot. Being that I'm generally a big chicken, I never intended to go out into the field. You can read more about why by CLICKING HERE. Since starting this blog, my illicit fear of seeing a bigfoot, has turned into a grand desire.

If you told me a couple years ago, that I'd be doing this? I would have not believed it. BUT, here I am......

Sasquatch Field Trips, Again Hampered by Snow

A storm rolls in from the west, over the Tahoe National Forest
This winter has been ridiculously long here. We've got another storm hitting this end of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The area I've been wanting to hike is between 5600 feet, up to a ridge at 7200 feet. Besides the several inches of snow that has already fallen this week, the forecast now calls for occasional 100 mph wind gusts on the mountain ridges, with 1-2 feet of new snow in the higher elevations for Easter Sunday, with more snow on Monday. If it sounds like I'm whining, well I am! Generally I believe, "There is no "whining" in squatching!" But... COME ON!!!!! ENOUGH ALREADY!

Safety is always first priority for me, when trekking out into the field. I don't want to leave my kids fatherless, over something stupid, ie. being reckless, falling through the snow, snapping a leg or ankle, and getting stranded. This is what we started to run into, with the snow on our last trip out. (CLICK HERE for more) So, now I am sitting here at my desk, honing my discipline, and working on patience. I will admit, "It's becoming quite monotonous."

Going over the area's sighting report history, I find very little occurring during the winter months. Most of the winter activity seems to be occurring on the western side of the Sierras, at elevations below 4500 feet. It would make sense that a majority of the Squatches would move toward the warmer, more comfortable climate, found on the Pacific side of the Sierras. Obviously, there is plenty of food sources for them on that side, as evidenced in the video below, taken by Jaime Avalos, on the eastern side of the Sierras, just a couple of weeks ago.

I do believe that there maybe some squatches, hanging around the eastern Sierras in the winter months also. There's deer, bighorn sheep, rabbit, raccoon, coyotes, marmot and squirrels, as some possible sources of protein. As for plant matter, I'm sure they can scavenge for the same food sources that the deer are able to find this time of year.

I think the lack of sighting reports, throughout the winter, is due to the lack of people, traveling through these areas because of the weather. Less people=lesser chances of sightings. Most minor roads through the Sierras are closed, because of snow in the winter months. Only a handful of people go to these areas to snow mobile, snow shoe, or cross country ski. Even then, most human activities in the high Sierras, are concentrated around the ski resorts, where the roads are kept clear. I think we can all agree that our sasquatch brethren are avoiding these areas like the plague. With 36 million Californians, in close proximity of the Sierra ski resorts, you can imagine how crowded they can be. Even in this bad economy.

I'd like to make it over to the western side, but I just don't have the time or resources to get out that way. So, for now, I will continue to stick to my plan, and areas of concentration on the eastern side of the Sierras.

SASQUATCH: Our First Day In the Field for 2010

It's been a long winter in the eastern Sierras. I've been chomping at the bit to get away from the computer, and out into the field. Finally, we had one nice week of warmer weather, so I seized the opportunity to get back to the area I highlighted in a video from February 17.

We started our hike at 5500 feet in elevation. Ground conditions were perfect for prints. At first, we could see a set of a single human's tracks, along with a medium sized dog's, that lasted only about a half a mile into our trek, as we approached the 5800 foot level. They seemed to be a day or two old. Otherwise, there seemed to be no signs of humans taking this trail once we hit the 5800 foot area. This is where the snow got thicker, and the human tracks ended.
The snow began to get deeper. Though it was melting at a pretty good rate, the top layer had a frozen crust, and soon we found ourselves falling through, up to our waists in some spots. I, being overly optimistic that the warmer weather would have melted more snow than we found, did not wear the appropriate shoes. I was wearing my warm weather shoes, with breathable mesh, that didn't fare well in the snow.

You can see how thick the snow is if you look to the right of me, where the snow has melted around the base of the tree. If you look past me, about 150 yards to the higher ground, is where I filmed the video from.

After about an hour and a half of getting beat up by the crumbling ice layer we were walking on, we decided to concede. We came to an area of high ground that was exposed to the sun, where most of the snow had melted. So we climbed to the top where we could get the best possible vantage point, where we sat, watched and listened. This is where I filmed the following video.

As you can see, too much time at my desk this winter, and I haven't shed my winter layer.

As we made our way back down, out of the snow line, we came across some large quadrupedal prints. They were fresh, as we did not see them on our way up. Henry and I had our heads on a swivel, as we thought they might be mountain lion tracks. They were 4 inches long, and 3.75 inches wide. We measured the distance between two tracks to be 39 inches. Though we found no evidence, on this short outing, of squatch activity, these prints made the day a bit more exciting.

Upon investigating it further, once I got home to the computer, I've come to the conclusion that these tracks are definitely not mountain lion. They definitely are canine of some sort. Whatever it was, it was huge! 4 inch paws are massive! Cougar prints are said to average 3-3.5 inches. CLICK HERE to see a nice comparison of large feline tracks, to canine.

Moral of the story is........ No matter what the conditions, or how short the day was, it is really great to get out into the field.

You can let your voice be heard, by the suits at History Channel, by CLICKING HERE. If you like the show, please write in and say so.

It is of my opinion that if they focused on more of the credible work, done in the bigfoot field, the show would attract many more viewers. Though it's interesting to hear about other Cryptozoological creatures, I think they tried to diversify too much, and it makes the show look more like science fiction, rather than a documentary style program. I think more bigfoot, and less fluff, would make the show much stronger. They didn't even do bigfoot episodes from Oregon or Washington, did they? Those are the squatchiest places on earth! I also think that if they mixed in a couple of chupacabra episodes, that would draw more viewers too. No, I'm not a chupa fan, but there are hundreds of reported sightings, and associated mutilations every year, and I know there is an interest in the subject, especially from the Latino community.

It's too bad, though I didn't care for a few of the episodes, I know that my son and I are going to be quite bummed out if it gets cancelled.

I just wanted to remind everyone that there's a new squatch episode airing on MonsterQuest Wednesday, March 17 at 8PM on the History Channel. Sierra Sasquatch will be featuring Jaime Avalos, and the work he's done, following a suspected group of 3 juvenile squatches. If you're not familiar with his work, check out the videos, in the video bar, down on the lower right side of this page. Here below, is a video of Dr. Meldrum examining some of Jaime's casts, of his group of squatches, and verifying that casts from various locations, are matching up and looking to be from the the same group.

I also wanted to make you all aware that Jaime's got a new website started. www.SierraSasquatch.com, and .net. It is in the beginning stages of development, but will slowly be coming together. There will be a lot more pictures and videos added to it in the near future. It isn't flashy, and is actually rather plain, but you can blame me for that. I've been trying to put it together for him. Neither one of us has much web development knowledge, but I have a little more free time to be helping him out. I'm glad to do it, as he has become a good friend, especially in this whole FELLOWSHIP OF THE SQUATCH quest I've become so involved in.

There's A Lot Going On Up There!) I had some help finding the location, with assistance from one of the regular contributors on Bigfoot Ballyhoo. I forgot exactly who it was, without going back through all the entries and reading the comments.

I was directed to the Squaw Lake, at the south end of Coos County. At the time, I found it by typing into Google Maps, and Google Earth, "Squaw Lake, Coos, OR" and "Squaw Lake, Powers, OR." When searching for locations on Google Maps or Earth, if you type in the county name, before the state abbreviation, that helps narrow down the area. I tried Powers, because it was one of the towns near the lake, according to my source.

Now, when I enter in "Squaw Lake, Coos, OR" and "Squaw Lake, Powers, OR" into Google Maps and Earth, I am getting the same location, but it now shows the name of the lake, renamed to "Sru Lake." I'm wondering if the name has been changed to keep all the curious folks away, as to not provoke more trouble, or hoaxers?

I've seen the active discussion on BigfootForums.com, but I can't seem to get on there to leave comments. Every time I try to sign up for an a user name, it rejects my email saying it is not a valid address. So I post it here, knowing a couple of the Forum readers visit this site from time to time. I hope this clarifies things. It is the location that was passed on to me.

New Winter Storm Passing Over the Sierras

Outside my home, there's at least 6 inches of new snow on the ground. After having some days in the 60's, and venturing out to do some early exploring, (see video below) it now looks like I will be waiting a bit longer to get out there to do some squatching. My area of interest, seen in the video, is getting hammered right now. Expecting at least 10 inches of new snow up there today, with more wet weather expected over the next few days. I was really hoping for the warm front to hang around, but it sucked in moisture off the Pacific, with the cold to make it snow.

So..... I am forced to wait. Looks like I need to concentrate on trading in my "soccer dad" van, for a 4x4. That's the only thing holding me back.

I'm hoping to get out there soon.

Will the Truth Set us Free?

There has been an amazing amount of sighting activity coming out of western Oregon the past few months, thanks to Linda Newton Perry's blog, Bigfoot Ballyhoo. It makes me think that probably, any day now, someone is going to capture some high quality video footage of a bigfoot.

All this activity has brought me back to thinking, "What happens after discovery?" Meaning, if some sort or irrefutable evidence should come out, proving the existence of a large, bipedal species of hominid, "Then what?"

My thoughts have always been focused on protection of sasquatch and their habitat, after discovery, that I never really thought about any other ramifications of what discovery might bring. ( I wrote about it a couple months back. Part 1/Part 2)

Now, I ask myself this: "What will become of us?"

Just imagine for a minute, the average American Joe, much like myself. I'm a divorced dad who enjoys the outdoors, with my 10 year old son, and a 7 year old daughter. Fishing mountain lakes is our thing we like to do, along with some light hiking and exploring.

Now let's fast forward to post discovery........

Dad wants to take a little fishing trip, but does he take the kids? Is he a bit paranoid to bring his children out to a place where mysterious, 10 foot tall hominids call home? What about the kids mom? If she's anything like my ex, she definitely will put her foot down. Sure, Dad now knows that bigfoots really exist, but does he really know anything about them? What is the true nature of the sasquatch? Dad knows that sasquatch generally avoid humans in reports he's read, but then there are the reports of sasquatch tearing up campgrounds, destroying garbage cans and information signs, shaking and pounding on RV'S and 5th wheels. They also seem to like observing human women and children. Do the sasquatch present a danger? Will it be reckless and irresponsible, of Dad, if he takes the kids out into the wilderness?

After some careful contemplation, Dad decides to err on the side of the safe bet, and he just takes them fishing to the lake at the park. You know, the one wedged between the shopping center and the freeway. There was a 5 year old boy attacked by a dog there last month, but Dad, and the kid's mom will feel safer keeping the kids in town. It's just as well, though the 10 year old wants to go out into the woods and see a sasquatch for himself, the 7 year old daughter has cried hysterically at the thought of a trip to the woods. Mainly, she's freaked out because she keeps seeing that movie trailer on TV about a killer sasquatch stalking, and devouring Girl Scouts, while they are on a camp out at a lake.

Do most causal outdoor enthusiasts give up, and stay home with the Wii, or TV remote instead? It's not what I'd do, but I think it's a great possibility many people will avoid wilderness activities.

Then, what happens to the people who live in rural areas, with forest for their backyard? Are they now too paranoid to even exit the house, at least without a gun? Do they put up safety bars on the windows, and replace the glass French doors with steel security doors? Security companies will make a killing selling these people protection by way of 10 foot electrified fences, and motion censored, mercury vapor spot lights to light up a 100 yard radius around their house. It will be an easy sell too, because the salesmen will prey on peoples fear of the unknown, and make the sasquatch out to be some kind of great beast, or monster.

These are just a couple scenarios that play out in my head, of what might happen with a lot of people. I'm not condoning this type behavior, or paranoia. I'm just thinking out loud. I'm of the school that sasquatch are primarily docile creatures that would rather avoid human contact. They have been elusive for centuries, and we've all enjoyed the outdoors until now, so why should it change?

How will peoples lives be different? Will people avoid the wilderness for fear of the unknown? Can you imagine what some media outlets will do to sensationalize sasquatch stories? Can you see us getting bombarded with a glut of horror movies and books, daemonizing the sasquatch? You bet 'cha! Hollyweird is going to exploit this for all it is worth.

I have read some articles, and seen some TV shows, that refer to sasquatch as "beasts." I don't like the use of the word "beasts," when directed at sasquatch. I actually detest it. It's like a dirty word to me.

Sure, some of you are thinking, "You have never seen a sasquatch, so how can you legitimately chastise the label?"

I think it's just that squatchy feeling in me, that many of us have. That adoration, and wonderment we have when we think, "sasquatch."

I know sightings can be scary, and for many, quite traumatic. I'll probably soil myself! Nonetheless, I hope to have my first sighting one day soon. Will I change my mind about the use of the word, "beast?" No matter how scared I may become, or how badly I soil myself, I doubt it. I guess it's just the Squatcher in me.

VIDEO: Sasquatch ReCon Trip Up to the Northern End of the Sierras

The weather has been great the past few days, so I thought I'd venture up to an area that I want to concentrate on, in the northern Sierra Nevada Mountains. My main reason for the trip was to see how the access was, but the forest roads are still covered in about 18 inches of snow, and my "soccer dad" mini van won't make it back too far. The snow makes for slow going and can't cover much ground right now, in the present conditions. There was evidence of deer activity, as well as rabbit. Also found some large cat prints, which I think were bobcat.

It was just really nice to get out there.

Video quality is shaky, because it was my regular digital, still cam. Had it on a lower setting as to not eat up the memory card. I just wanted to get something to post, as I haven't written anything for a while. I'm in the middle of writing a couple pieces, but not quite done with them yet. I will get them posted as soon as I'm done with them.

Sasquatch: The Squaw Lake Saga

Last week, I wrote about the USFS closing of Squaw Lake, near Powers, Oregon, and the possible reason being that a hostile, territorial Sasquatch, maybe the reason why. Many of you, I'm sure, have been following the story on the Bigfoot Ballyhoo blog. If you haven't kept up on the Squaw Lake Saga..... go to Bigfoot Ballyhoo, and start reading the posts, starting on January 25, starting with Dale Saxton's post. He is one of the exploration party, that went to Squaw Lake. That will bring you up to speed. Linda Perry has done a great job, letting people of varying opinions, voice their thoughts.

After catching myself up on the past few days of banter, I can tell you that I'm basically at a loss for words. Honestly, I'm emotionally exhausted. I appreciate that someone wants to hear what I have to say on the events, and Mr. Paulides statements on Linda's blog. I'd like to make it clear that I'm new to this arena. I'm just a Sasquatch enthusiast with a blog, who aspires to get up off the couch, and get out in the field to do some of my own research. Mr. Paulides has years of experience in Bigfooting, and has happened to write a couple of well respected books on the subject. I think many of his peers respect his work, as he is usually invited to speak at many "Squatchy" type gatherings, symposiums, etc. This includes the upcoming Oregon Bigfoot Symposium in June. I didn't see his comments as "pushing" his books. Honestly, in the Bigfoot genre, they are a couple of the more widely read books, from what I understand. I, have not read them. I haven't read any Bigfoot/Sasquatch books. The Internet has fed me all I've had time to read, for now.

When Mr. Paulides mentioned examples from his books, I didn't take it that he was publicizing his books. I took it that he was referring to them because they are well known, Squatch related books. I have a couple t-shirts I designed for fun, on my blog. Does that make me a t-shirt pusher? I'm not taking a swipe at you "Anonymous." I'm just trying to put it in to perspective. Obviously his comments, "Maybe there is no study taking place, maybe they are going in to bring out a body?" and "It would appear that they are going out to kill it, thus the dogs and the tracker." drew out a lot of emotion. Mr. Paulides is all about preserving the species, and may have said that too out of fear of what might happen out there. I happen to agree with Mr. Paulides remark, that with a dog and a professional tracker, it does sound like a hunting party. BUT..... I have been reading Dale's posts since I've been regularly visiting Bigfoot Ballyhoo, and I don't think he'd have anything to do with the killing of a Bigfoot. He seems just as concerned for the Squatch's well being, as I or Mr. Paulides.

Let us remember the forum in which Mr. Paulides made these comments. Bigfoot Ballyhoo is basically an open forum in which Linda encourages "Bigfoot" discussion. Now if it were I, or Anonymous voicing our opinions in such a way, I don't think it would have elicited as much anger, as it did with Mr. Paulides, because of who he is. Again, he voiced his opinion in an open discussion forum. So as far as his comments being irresponsible? I don't think so, not in this forum, where many of us have voiced our opinions, negative, or otherwise.

It is unfortunate however, that the guy from the Redding rag had to over-sensationalize the story, and PETA had to get involved so they could get more press. I'm glad, if arrests were made in the PETA incident.

As I finish up writing this, I briefly hopped over to Bigfoot Ballyhoo to see if there has been an update from Dale Saxton on the matter. His daughter just posted that Dale is in the hospital with pneumonia. She's saddened by the inferences, that her dad would want to trap or kill a Sasquatch, as he's devoted much of his life to protecting them. CLICK HERE to read more about what was found.

OREGON: There's A Lot Going On Up There!

I know it is out of my area of concentration, but Oregon, our neighbor to the north, has been a busy place of late, as far as Bigfoot sightings go. I will admit, that I am a "Sasquatch Junkie!" I'm addicted to reading sighting reports. For me, hearing other peoples' "first hand" experiences, are always exciting. In a way, I think I'm living vicariously though them, for that brief amount of time, where they encounter a Sasquatch. Also, I try and absorb as much as I can from the reports, for anything that might help me out in the future, while out in the field.

Linda Newton-Perry (Bigfoot Ballyhoo), has done a great job, in urging witnesses to share their experiences. Linda writes a weekly, Bigfoot related column, for the Douglas County News. Linda and her Husband, also have written 3 Children's books on Bigfoot, as well as maintain a children's Bigfoot website, Bigfoot Fancy 4 Kids. Through her efforts, she wants to make talking about Bigfoot, commonplace. Let's face it. Most of us know they're out there, but the mainstream find us a bit nuts. Linda is trying to change that.

Many recent sightings reported on Linda's site, have been occurring in western Oregon. Especially in an area just southeast of Coos Bay. One area in particular, Squaw Lake, has garnered much attention. So much so, that the U.S. Forest service has closed it down. Reports have come in, about a more "hostile" acting Bigfoot, that has been encountered around Squaw Lake. This past summer, the visitor information sign at the lake, had been destroyed, and a few steel trash cans were smashed and thrown some 60 plus feet out into the lake. A few sources have corroborated that there are researchers, sent by the USFS to Squaw Lake, investigating that which has been reported in the area. One of the other hot topics on Bigfoot Ballyhoo, has been the incidents of people reporting sightings to law enforcement agencies. Most sightings occur while people are driving. Some of these people have come forward, to explain how they were treated as lunatics by the authorities, ultimately having their driver's licenses suspended until they can be cleared through a state appointed Psychiatrist/Psychologist. Also, law enforcement officers have reported, being suspended on paid leave until they can clear a psych evaluation, after they too have reported sightings. It sounds like state authorities are either in total denial, incredibly ignorant, or trying to hide something. Doesn't it?

Great New Videos From Jaime Avalos - Sierra Sasquatch

I just wanted to make you all aware of some newer videos that Jaime Avalos has posted on his YouTube channel. He was back east over the holidays and on his return, he passed through Reno, where we got a chance to meet up for a few hours. What a genuine, really nice guy! He knows I'm just starting out in my research endeavors, and it was great to sit and talk, and listen to him. It was generous of him to share some of his ideas, and techniques in his approach to field work. Jaime operates outside the "conventional" box, and is genuinely concerned for the welfare of the Sasquatch. It is researchers like Jaime, with this sort of attitude, I am trying to align myself with. I want to stay far away from the guys who are supposedly trying to hunt a Bigfoot down with a tranquilizer gun, so they can put it on display as if it were the "Great Kong." You know the type. The kinda guy that keeps a severed hand in a jar of formaldehyde, and proclaims it to be from Sasquatch. Don't get me started! I digress..... If you have been following this blog for a while, I think you know of the researchers I do respect. "Nuff" said.

Jaime found some interesting stuff while he was back east. In particular, a fresh killed snake, lying in the snow, with no evidence of how it got there. Jaime has had "gift exchange" experiences in the Sierras, and he found the snake near an area where he left some treats. He's not saying that it was a "gift exchange," but it is a thought. Then he came across a particular tree twist, which I got to see first hand, as Jaime brought it back with him. It is a very intricate twist, to a better than 1 inch sapling. No human could have the strength to have twisted that little tree the way it was. There were no signs at all of anything mechanical cutting it. In fact, there were no cuts at all. You can see that it is not a fresh twist, but it's a very interesting formation, nonetheless.

Coincidentally, this past Saturday, I received a call from Jaime, just as I had taken a break from writing this entry. He was calling from the western side of the Sierras, and he gave me an update on what he's been doing since we met, earlier this month. He headed out to the west side, and met up with Ron Morehead (BigfootSounds.com). Then he went to investigate some areas of suspicion, where he thinks the trio he's been tracking, may have been headed toward from the eastern Sierras.

This has got to be the coolest tree twist I've ever seen!

He found some possible tracks, which by their dimensions, could belong to one of the trio. While preparing to cast a print, he heard a loud scream, which he told me, compared to some of Mr. Morehead's recordings. You can hear his reaction in this video, below.

After he followed the direction of the tracks, he came across this stick formation:

If you're familiar with Jaime's videos, you may have seen some of the other "stick" evidence he has come across, while tracking the trio (ie. the new X spot video above). Jaime has the theory, from evidence he has seen, that one of these juvenile Squatches, has a penchant for sticks. Thus, he's dubbed this particular Squatch with the name, Styx.

Jaime hasn't heard anything new on when the "Sierra Sasquatch" episode of MonsterQuest, might air. If I hear anything from him on it, I will definitely post it here.

OK. I don't know why, but I've neglected to check Autumn Williams' (OregonBigfoot.com) blog for the past couple of days. I usually check it a few times everyday, for updates. Anyway, Rick at West Virginia Bigfoot directed me to Autumn's latest post. She has watched it many times too, looking for the second figure, and she was finally able to see it. One of her readers sent her a video clip from YouTube, in which you can see the second figure, pop up. Follow-up: Sasquatch Caught on IMAX?

I've watched this footage extensively, so now I have a couple more observations to point out. Firstly, it looks too skinny to match up with most sighting reports of a big hulking build. I do like reading the sighting reports from all over the country on the various websites. I have noticed though, especially in reports from the east, there are a considerable amount of reports of thin, lanky subjects being observed. So , in this regard, I'm sure, just as in humans, that there are Squatches of all body types.

Secondly, the most striking thing that makes me think that this very well could be a Sasquatch, is the perceived height of the subject. The BFRO report stated that Caribou are an average of 44 inches at the shoulders. If you compare the size of the subject in the "Great North" footage, to the caribou in the foreground, the hunched over figure of the subject is comparatively much larger than the caribou several yards in front of it. Just imagine, if the subject in question, were to stand straight up, how much taller it would appear to be.

My friend Rick, over at Bigfoot in West Virginia, had this to say, "I noticed on it at 24 seconds another head(?) pop up ever so briefly to the left of where the first object disappeared. Interesting also how all the animals were avoiding that area too." I've been unable to catch it, but maybe some of you maybe able to see what Rick pointed out. I'm waiting for my copy from Netflix to get here so I can see it on by hi def TV. Not surprising that there is a waiting list for "Great North", but hopefully it will get here soon.

Hopefully, someone in the near future will be able to re-examine the IMAX footage, and talk to the film crew, so we can get a better understanding of what, or who, the figure really is.

Sasquatch Caught on IMAX? Watch the Clip Here.

This clip is from "Great North: IMAX,"(2002).

If you look at the link above, just to the right of the play button, you can see a black blobsquatch. It appears at about 9:19, as it pops up from behind an embankment, then moves to the right, and hunches back down. I've gone directly to the HULU page for this video, where I could change the resolution to 480p, which is the highest available on this video, and watched it in fullscreen mode on my 22inch HD wide monitor. The first half of the appearance looks very human, until just before it squats back down. Look at the arm on the right come swinging down. From the bend at the elbow, up to the shoulder, it looks proportionately, way too long to be human, compared to the length of the torso, and appears very Squatch like.

I just became aware of this footage through the BFRO website. Watch the video, and then go read the write up on BFRO. I won't re-hash what they had to say about it. I really like watching the clip, and want to get it up as quickly as possible for everyone to see. How often do we get to see, a halfway decent shot of something, that might be a Squatch? I've come to no certain conslusion, especially until BFRO may hear something back from the show's production crew, but it's fun to watch.

From the Archives: Bigfoot Sighting in Genoa, Nevada

A view of the sighting area, from Genoa Lakes Golf Club. I believe it is the Canyon in the middle, with a visible green belt going down the center of it, where the stream might be. (Compare this to the aerial map below.)

For about an hour, in September of 1984, 2 female hikers were followed by a Sasquatch, down a hiking trail, above Genoa, Nevada. Kelly, one of the witnesses filed a report with the BFRO in February of 2003. She wrote a great, detailed account, and BFRO also followed up with more details, after they interviewed her.

I thought my fellow Nevadans might enjoy this report. Nevada has very few documented reports, which I think can be attributed to the sparse human population, over such a great area. Unlike Northern California, where the Bay Area alone has a population in excess of 7 million, and the Sacramento area has a population equal to Nevada itself (2.5 million as of 2007, most of which is in, and around, Las Vegas). Smaller population, equals less people venturing out into the wild, which lessens the chances of Sasquatch encounters, in wilderness areas far larger than most in California. The area in which this sighting took place is east, just over the Kingsbury Grade, from South Lake Tahoe.

I've gone over the maps to try and outline the location of the encounter. The area in which the sighting occurred is still pristine wilderness. Genoa itself, has grown quite a bit, and is now an upscale golf course community, and million dollar plus homes, line the west side of Centennial Drive, in the area in which Kelly said she parked her truck. It looks like it is all private property on that west side of the street now. I will make a trip down that way in the Spring and see if I can find trail access along there. In the meantime, I have pulled a couple photos from Google Earth of the area. (Google Earth, by the way, is a great free service. I could spend hours on there!)

There are a few points I found interesting in the report. Firstly, the encounter started with the teenagers running down the hill. This is consistent with theories that Sasquatch are attracted to the presence of children. A couple of teenage boys would probably have been talking loudly, and laughing and giggling, which could have gotten the Squatch's curiosity up. Secondly, two women, walking and talking, who's voices probably carried pretty well through the canyon. This is also consistent with the theory of more frequent sightings with women. Then Kathy, also was playing her recorder at the top of the canyon, where the sound would probably carry rather well. I think maybe all these things combined, added to the reason why they had the encounter, and why the Sasquatch wanted to follow and watch them for as long as it did.

This sighting occurred over 25 years ago, when Genoa wasn't the resort style town it is now, with a then, much smaller population. Back then, all the new homes and golf courses weren't present to deter a Sasquatch coming down from the mountains, to possibly hunt the deer that would frequent the pastures and alfalfa fields along the Carson River. I think that particular Squatch, and any it may have socialized with, may now shy away from that area, to avoid possible interaction with humans, and have moved on back toward the southwest.

Bigfoot in West Virginia has posted a photo from a researcher in Arkansas. I clearly see a primate sitting, with its head down. It doesn't look like a guy in a suit. You can clearly see the the large deltoid and bicep muscle on it's left side, with good definition visible through the fur. The length of the arm is noticeably long, in comparison to it's torso. Also, the left ear is visible, and it doesn't stick out like they usually do on a chimpanzee. If it isn't an escaped pet, or zoo specimen, then what is it? MonsterQuest: Season 3 Premieres Wednesday, January 13, 2010

I just checked History.com, and Season 3 of MonsterQuest premieres Wednesday, January 13, 2010. It appears the first episode will not be Bigfoot related, rather "Killer Jellyfish." I know many of us Squatchers are looking forward to the new season, because it is MonsterQuest that fuels our habitual craving for anything "Bigfoot." We know we are at least expecting at least one episode devoted to Bigfoot. "Sierra Sasquatch," should be airing this season. You can watch a few of the Jaime Avalos videos, on the right side of this page, and see some of the footage he shot during filming, that took place this past October.

If you're not familiar with Mr. Avalos, he had a sighting in 2006, which inspired him to do his own field work, and since, has become a well respected researcher. (CLICK HERE to read his sighting report on BFRO.) I first learned of Mr. Avalos and his work in the Member's area of OregonBigfoot.com (Excellent source of anything and everything Squatchy). Autumn Williams did quite an extensive interview with him, discussing his work, and his findings. Mr. Avalos has been following a group of 3 juvenile Sasquatch, over several hundred miles of the Sierras. He has taken dozens of footprint casts, and has had some of the them authenticated by Dr. Meldrum. (See Video Below)

Mr. Avalos has been able to predict their movement, and this is how he has been able to follow them, and gathering more casts. These casts have been found in very desolate areas, from above 10,000 feet in elevation down to below sea level. I'm chomping at the bit to see the Sierra Sasquatch episode! I just realized that I've profiled Mr. Avalos before, back in October. (CLICK HERE to read.) I do want to reiterate one thing, and I think it applies to any Bigfoot Researcher you may know:

"Please indulge me, but this is purely an idea, a "wish" of sorts, on my behalf. If you are familiar with the areas in the videos, please keep the information to yourselves. I'm sure you'll agree, that one wrong individual, venturing out to one of these locations, could be detrimental to the work Mr. Avalos is conducting, and the individuals, he seems to be building a kinship with. Yes, it's a free country, but if you are a Squatch junkie, like me, you will want to be protective of these individuals he is tracking, and the great stuff Mr. Avalos has been able to accomplish to this point.

I hope you understand my point. "Respect" is where I think I'm trying to go with this. I think that if you are able to watch a few of his videos, you will come to agree with me."

I forgot exactly how I found Cliff's blog, I think I was just surfing the net, maybe a google search. But I probably spent several hours just going back through his posts and reading all I could take in. Good stuff! I had, and still have, another blog, related to my work, fxtradepros.com. So, with my heavy interest in Sasquatch, I thought blogging about something I really enjoy, would be a fun excursion from the serious stuff, and if you look at my other blog, I've fallen behind posting there because I've become addicted to the Bigfoot stuff! So, I started the Bigfoot Blog. I agree. I impatiently wait for Cliff to post new stuff. I spend a lot of time bouncing between him and Autumn Williams blog, waiting for them to post new stuff!

As for my Sasquatch experience? No sightings. I only had, what I think were a few "experiences," that now I look back on, with the Squatch knowledge I now have, and think maybe I've been close to a Squatch or two. Besides the McKenzie River, I also had similar experiences, out near the Oregon Coast in 1994. It was up at a place called Table Mountain. It was quite the drive up a dirt logging road, just off the Alsea River, near the town of Alsea. I was scouting a mining property up there. I made regular trips, alone up there. It was old growth forest, bordered by some GP clear cut areas. Never thought of Bigfoot back then, but always felt like I was being watched. On my trips up there, I did see plenty of deer, and a bobcat. There was a source of water up there too. A small spring that formed a trickle of a stream that percolated up out of the ground. It was picture perfect Squatch country. Quite a beautiful place, until you see the clear cuts.

I haven't seen a Bigfoot, but I know they exist. Too many credible witnesses, and quality footprint casts, backed with the opinions of experts, like Dr. Meldrum, makes it pretty clear to me. I've made the point before that, "I have been a scuba diver for 27 years, and I've never seen a Great White, but I know the exist."

I've been paid an incredible compliment, by one of the most respected media organizations in the country! The Independent, of Cleveland, Ohio.

For those who didn't catch that, that was SARCASM.

How they came across my obscure little blog, I'll never know. They did a little story, "Kathie Lee Disses Ohio Bigfoot Hunters." Obviously, the Independent's editor, James Renner, is a big Kathy Lee fan. Again, SARCASM.

"Anyway, as you can imagine, local Bigfoot hunters are geeking out about this." This was the compliment he paid to me, and linked the "geeking" part to my "Bigfoot on NBC's Today Show" article.

Thanks Mr. Renner! Yes, I am a Bigfoot Geek! I love it! Bigfoot Geek! I would just like to point out that you did call me a "local Bigfoot hunter." Maybe you did badly in geography back in elementary school, but my blog is called, "Sierra Tahoe Bigfoot Research." The Sierras, nor Tahoe is anywhere near Ohio. Just thought I'd point that out to you. I'm about 2300 miles from you Dude! That's OK, my ex is terrible at geography too. She thought the country to the north of us, was Russia. Also, I'm not a "Bigfoot Hunter." I like to refer to myself as a "Bigfoot Researcher." Again, because basically, I'm a geek, not a hunter.

I just watched this video via Cliff Barackman's blog, and posted a comment there.

I'm glad Bigfoot got some press, though it was a more poking fun, than them trying to give it any credibility. I'm glad they at least included some airtime to Dr. Meldrum, though it wasn't even enough. Seemed as though they were more concerned with getting to the slapstick, rather than lending it any credibility. I'm not familiar with the guy from Ohio who is featured in the video. I'll have to watch the video again, and try and get his name, so I can familiarize myself with him.

I'll admit, I got a little flustered toward the end of the segment. Then I read something Cliff wrote in his blog, that made me feel better. "There's nothing to take personally. Their mockery is directly proportional to their own ignorance of the subject." I love it! I hope you don't mind that I quote you? (lol) Thanks Cliff!

Cliff Barackman: Columbia Pioneer Update, and My Case in the Stigma of Bigfooting

Columbia Sportswear Pioneer of the Outdoors

Mr. Barackman has received "Runner-up" recognition for his great video that he submitted to Columbia Sportswear for their "Pioneer of the Outdoors" contest. He did it to raise awareness in the "Squatch" and Sasquatch Research.

I'm glad he received recognition from them, but seriously? I am a little disappointed. He obliterated the rest of the competition in votes, but the final decision was made by Columbia. I thought they'd eat up his video and love it! Come on! The humor which Cliff added to his video reminded me a bit of the old Columbia "Ma Gert Boyle" ad campaign, that was on also on the humorous side. I actually was thinking what a great spokesman Cliff would make, and that snippets of his video would make a great TV commercial. But, then again, there is a stigma that goes along with Bigfoot, and Bigfoot research. Let's face it, the mainstream looks at us, and tends to roll their eyes a bit.

Here's my case, as an example. I am divorced, and have two young children. My relationship with my ex can be rocky at times, and my time with my children is regulated by how well we are getting along. Yes, she's not suppose to do that, but besides going back and forth to court, it's much easier to regulate the relationship. Long story short..... if she knew that I was this interested in Bigfoot, knew that I actually have a Bigfoot blog, and intend on going out and conducting my own research, she would freak, and probably take me to court to try to make me out to be a wacko. She wouldn't have a case, but it would still cause a problem, and undeniable stress. This is why I haven't mentioned my last name on my blog or any posts, just in case she Googles me. I'm trying to save myself from any headache, the BF stigma would cause, in relation to my family life. It's sad, because otherwise, I don't give a damn what people think, but I have to stay "in the closet" about my Bigfoot interests, because my kids. They mean far too much to me, so because of the mainstream ignorance to Sasquatch and the associated stigma, I will remain in the closet, until the exitstence of Bigfoot is, in the least, proven to my ex.

As for Cliff Barackman and his "Runner-up" finish? Congratulations Cliff! I am happy for you! I'm glad you are satisfied in their decision. Maybe I was just too optimistic, and biased. Please go read his blog, and the letter that Columbia Sportswear sent to Cliff, by Clicking Here.

Bigfoot In the Northwoods-MINNESOTA and Video From NEW MEXICO

I was made aware of this story on Autumn Williams' OregonBigfoot.com Blog. Now I see it on the front page of Yahoo. So, I thought I'd pass it along. Here's the article link that was on Yahoo: CLICK HERE.

(Read the story first, so you know what I'm talking about. Thanks!) I tend to agree with Autumn's view, that it looks like a suit to me. There is just no form to it at all, especially the legs and back. Just looks like a baggy suit hanging off of someone. To get a better look, I played with the photo a bit. Try this: Save the picture file, and open it in one of your basic photo viewing programs, zoom in, then play with the contrast, and brightness/exposure. It helps to get a little better view of it. I also notice the "butt" is really flat and has no shape, after I played with it for a while. Gluteal muscles tend to be some of the largest muscles in most mammals. This specimen, appears to have none. If it's a real Bigfoot? Great! I don't want to seem like I'm trying to discredit them. I'm just trying to be objective.

I just hate hoaxers, because they tend to take away credibility from the real evidence that so many good researchers work so hard to collect. Again, I'm not saying this is a hoax. I only wish the picture was of better quality.

Yes, it is blurry, and yes, I wish they went up for a closer look, but what do we know we would do in their situation? Would I run up there trying to get a better view, or would I just stay at a safe distance, and then get the heck out of there? Who knows? Interesting footage, nonetheless.

Bigfoot Sighting in San Antonio

Below is a satellite view of the surrounding area to the west. The sighting occurred on the very west edge of San Antonio (red). I pointed out the possible wilderness areas (yellow lines), of which the Sasquatch, could have traveled from that night. That is Medina Lake to the west.

There have been other Bigfoot reports, involving the possible scavenging of roadkill. Maybe this particular Squatch, was following some of the more major roads, looking for roadkill? If I had to forage for myself, this would be one of my first choices. What do you think?

Recount of a Solo Camper's Bigfoot Encounter in the Tahoe National Forest

I recently received an email about a possible Bigfoot sighting in the Grass Valley, California area. I'm still waiting for details, but in the meantime, this has spurned my focus to be redirected to this area. I have spent most of my Internet research time, focusing on the Sierras, south of Lake Tahoe. Grass Valley is northwest of Lake Tahoe, and is within an easier commute from my home here in Reno, compared to the other areas I've been researching. Honestly, I have yet to begin any of my own field research, but I am still slowly acquiring equipment, and now weather will become an issue. I'm hoping I will be able to begin my field expeditions in the Spring.

After reading some reports, from other websites, on sightings in this aforementioned area, I have come across a report, that is particularly well written, and it's details made for some compelling reading. The man's recounting of his experience was rather vivid, and chilling. It occurred on August 1, 1986, while camping solo, along with his dogs. Click here to read his story from the BFRO website. In his report he gave a link to a topo map of the approximate location where he had his encounter. I have done a little digging, and have found the area on a satellite imaging map, to give you a clearer picture of the location and it's environment.

While I was researching the location, I started to think about what I had written a few posts ago, regarding "Squatching Ethics" (click here to read). This is a new endeavor for me. I'm new to Bigfoot Research, but I have some very clear ideas about what my main objectives are. Protecting the Sasquatches' habitat, and way of life, is my main objective. How to go about it is a whole 'nother issue. (Which is covered very well by Autumn Williams in a 5 part series on her blog. Click here.)

So, I start thinking, "Am I compromising my objective, by releasing this clear view of the encounter's location to the general public?" In this case, I think not. For one reason, it's not as if I'm a particularly brilliant individual with special gifts that I share with the world. I found this using a decent Internet map search in about 5 minutes. Secondly, the aforesaid encounter happened over 13 years ago. I think most Bigfoot researchers agree that these beings are transient. They don't stay in one location for long, as they may just go to where the food is. So, the chance that this same Sasquatch is still in this immediate area, are probably slim at best. Third, this area is dotted with many small mountain lakes and is accessed by many outdoor enthusiasts. These lakes can see quite a lot of traffic in the Summer months. It's not like this is a secret, desolate area. So.... I think it is safe to share this one.

To make a long story short, I'm just making an effort to be responsible. Let's face it! We have no idea of the sort of people who are accessing and reading these posts. Some people have ideas of bringing in a Sasquatch trophy, to show the world. Others, not mentioning any names (Biscardi:)~, want to capture a Bigfoot to put on display as the 8th wonder of the world, just like the guy in King Kong. (This is another thing I've been wanting to address, in a future blog entry.) By the way, if you haven't seen it, try getting a hold of "Not Your Typical Bigfoot Movie." Excellent, but sad. It is not full of BF facts, or footage, but explores the life of 2 BF researchers, and the lives they lead. I'll leave it at that. I was able to get it through Netflix. In it, is an example of the man, and how he used these guys, threw one of them under a bus, for his own selfish means. (Again, thats a whole 'nother story.)

Squatching Ethics, and Bigfoot Rights (Cont'd)

Before reading Ms. Williams' 5 part series, I'd been thinking... Actually, more like daydreaming about the perfect scenario, in my mind, about what I think would be "ideal proof." Proof, that would satisfy a majority of the scientific community, and a majority of the general public. Proof, without blood, or a capture.

Proof

I see a Goodall/Fossey-esk type interaction, recorded in clear video, mostly in daylight, over a few days or weeks. Footage showing the first contact, building trust, sharing gifts and/or food. Becoming accepted. All the while, collecting samples for DNA testing.

Autumn touched on this same "Proof" scenario in Part Five of her series. For me, the most important subject of all, is what to do with the new found evidence? What would the consequences be?

Squatching Ethics

My first thought is, for most researchers, proving the existence of Bigfoot is predominately egotistical. Without getting into a deep theological debate, besides proving the existence of Extraterrestrials, proof of the existence of Bigfoot, would be the most earth shaking scientific revelation, in the era of modern man. I'll admit, I sometimes think about what it would be like, to be the person who proves the existence of Bigfoot. My first thought is how proud my kids would be of me. Let's face it, my name would be immortalized, but to what end? Herein lies the dilemma. What would the discovery, and publicity, do to the Sasquatch?

What happens to almost every species of rare animal? My first thought, is they are usually hunted to extinction. Do a web search for "Dian Fossey Photos," or watch the movie, Gorillas in the Mist. You will see some extremely gruesome examples of what happened to the mountain gorilla. Every sicko trophy collector, from around the world, would come out of the woodwork, to get a literal "piece" of the Sasquatch. They would pay obscene amounts of money for Bigfoot trinkets, to put on their mantle.

Besides trophy hunters, every scientist, wannabe primatologist, and everyday yahoo (such as myself), would descend on the wilds of North America to catch a glimpse of the new found species. Paparazzi and TV producers will all want a piece of the action, because the world will be hungry for anything and everything Sasquatch. We are over populating the earth as it is, and encroaching on the wilds of the world by hundreds of thousands of acres a day. Can you imagine the thousands of "humans" that would be invading the Sasquatches habitat, on a daily basis? Sure, some sort of legislation could eventually be passed, laws to protect Bigfoot. Will it be in time? Obviously, wildlife poaching is a problem around the world. Laws don't stop poachers, they only slow them down a bit.

So, after my "warm and toasty" dissertation, on the evils of revealing Sasquatch to the world, would I actually release the evidence? I'd like to say, "No!" but I'm human. Would my ego, overpower my desire to be loyal to the overall well being of Sasquatch? I'd like to think so. Would optimism in the human race, transcend my fears, and have me believe that revealing Bigfoot to the world, would do more good, than harm? I'm sure I'll never have the need to make this decision, but I can't say that I don't want to either. Or, do I?

Something to think about if you're an active Squatcher.

Recently, Autumn Williams of OregonBigfoot.com, wrote a 5 part series entitled, "Bigfoot Discovery," which can be found on her Blog (click here). The articles cover such subjects as, "To prove, given the chance, or not to prove? What, ultimately, would constitute proof? What would a “proof” scenario look like? "To kill or not to kill?" and it's ramifications." Let us remember that Ms. Williams has 20 plus years of Bigfoot research behind her. I'm sure most of you are familiar with her work. If not, after you do some searching around, you will see that she is probably the most respected woman, if not person, in the field of Bigfoot Research. She's also produced and directed this documentary:

The point I'm trying to make is that, of anyone, Ms. Williams' devotion and experience, with anything "Sasquatch," makes her highly qualified to comment on such critical issues, regarding Bigfoot research and discovery.

For the aspiring researcher, such as myself, these articles touch upon the most critical subjects we must think about, before we ever venture out into Sasquatches' world, armed with technology, or lead, or both.

Rethinking Bigfoot Clapping and Vocalizations

Cliff Barackman has written a great article and posted it on his North American Bigfoot Blog. He revisits his hypothesis of Bigfoot clapping, in place of actual wood-knocking. He also reviews some recorded sounds of deer vocalizations. On a more recent expedition to Bluff Creek, he encountered some vocalizations of what he first assumed were Bigfoot. Now, after hearing these two deer vocalizations, he now thinks he may have heard deer, rather than a Bigfoot. This candid honesty is what makes me really respect Mr. Barackman. We all know, there are Bigfoot researchers out there who would make every excuse in the world, to say that their recordings are Bigfoot. Obviously, Mr. Barackman is looking for scientific data, not sensationalism.

The Roe Deer bark has me a little in awe, that such a small deer, can make such a powerful sound. In respect to the white-tailed deer vocalization, on the audio description, it states, "Confidence in ID: Not certain." Does this mean that it is only an assumption that it is a deer? NY itself has quite a bit of Bigfoot activity. Only a thought on my part. If anyone has heard and/or seen white-tails make these type of vocalizations, I would really appreciate feedback, at stbigfoot@gmail.com.

VIDEO: Possible Sierra Sasquatch Monsterquest Episode?

Bigfoot researcher, Jaime Avalos, recently posted an interview with a vacationing couple from the U.K. who helped attain some ariel footage for a possible Monsterquest episode, that Jaime referred to as "Sierra Sasquatch." I'm not in touch with Mr. Avalos directly, but will keep you up to date when I hear, or see anymore updates on the possible Monsterquest episode. I'm sure Mr. Avalos will follow up with more details soon.

A Hiker's Bigfoot Encounter in the Desolation Wilderness Area

On August 20, 2005, a man has an night time encounter with a female Sasquatch, while camped out, alone in the the Desolation Wilderness Area, approximately 12 miles southwest of Lake Tahoe.

I first read about this encounter on the BFRO site, and later found this copy of the report on Bob Boston's website. Bob, or BB, is the man who had the encounter. On the site, are photos of a follow up trip, he made back to the location of his encounter, with the female Bigfoot, he has affectionately dubbed, "Maxine."

I will admit, that after I read this report for the first time, about a year ago, my interest in Bigfoot hit an all time high. The thought of Bigfoot, here in my "backyard," has really turned me into a real Squatchhead! As I stated in an earlier blog, I've always had an interest in Bigfoot, but I always thought that most of the sightings were farther north, and west of the Sierra Range. I never realized that there was so much Sasquatch activity in the Tahoe area, down to Yosemite and Mammoth. I'll be posting other reports I find interesting, especially those, in and around this area.

VIDEO: Tracking Bigfoot in the Sierras

I first heard about Jaime Avalos' work on www.oregonbigfoot.com. He did an in depth interview with Autumn Williams, about his work, and the Bigfoot sighting that inspired him to begin his field work.

Mr. Avalos has been tracking a group of prints through the Sierras, starting around the Mammoth, California area. He has taken over 100 print casts. His work has been reviewed by, who is considered the foremost authority on Bigfoot print cast research, Dr. Jeff Meldrum, Idaho State University. Here is Mr. Avalos' video of a meeting with Dr. Meldrum:

It has been concluded that the cast are mostly from 3 individuals. The cast were taken from locations as high as 11,000 feet, over a 400 mile area. Mr. Avalos has developed a sense for where these individuals will go next, thusly he has been able to obtain numerous casts from multiple locations, of the 3 same individuals.

Mr. Avalos has a library of some 120 videos on his youtube channel, covering his work. The video above, is the latest entry he has made, and has recently posted, that he has more to come.

Please indulge me, but this is purely an idea, a "wish" of sorts, on my behalf. If you are familiar with the areas in the videos, please keep the information to yourselves. I'm sure you'll agree, that one wrong individual, venturing out to one of these locations, could be detrimental to the work Mr. Avalos is conducting, and the individuals, he seems to be building a kinship with. Yes, it's a free country, but if you are a Squatch junkie, like me, you will want to be protective of these individuals he is tracking, and the great stuff Mr. Avalos has been able to accomplish to this point.

I hope you understand my point. "Respect" is where I think I'm trying to go with this. I think that if you are able to watch a few of his videos, you will come to agree with me.
